MLWR girls end season in first round of playoffs

The Moose Lake-Willow River girls basketball team ended their season last Thursday with an opening round loss in the playoffs.

The Rebels lost to Crosby-Ironton by the score of 91-60. The Lady Rebels ended their season with a record of 8-19.

The Rebels were within 48-34 at the half but could not come closer.

Suzy Grutoski and Ella Rhoades each had 13 points to lead the Rebels, followed closely by Dallis Kukuk with 11 points.

Laura Walker scored eight points, Natalie Mikrot had seven, Tori Walczynski tallied three, Charis Blacklock added three, Ellie Schaumburg scored two.

“We played pretty well for the first 28 minutes of the game. We were within nine points with nine minutes to go,” said coach Dustin Wright. “We then went the next five minutes without scoring and C-I was able to extend their lead. We would like to thank our four seniors, Suzy Grutkoski, Laura Walker, Tori Walczynski and Tana Korhonen for all that they have contributed to our program. We are very excited to get to work this off-season and feel that we can be a contender in both the Polar League and section 7AA next season.”
