The Moose Lake/Willow River Rebels sixth-grade boys basketball team played and won in the Mora tournament on Sunday, February 18, taking the championship. The other teams in the tournament were Pine City, Mora, Cambridge Black, Cambridge White, Cambridge Blue, Sauk Rapids and Braham.

The young Rebels played Cambridge Black in the first round. The halftime score was 22-4 MLWR, defeating them 44-5 and the end of regulation.

That win moved the Rebels into the winners bracket to face the home team of Mora. At halftime the Rebels were ahead 20-4. MLWR easily handled that contest, winning 43-14.

This win put them in the championship game against the Cambridge Blue team. Cambridge players were big and aggressive. The Bluejackets led at halftime 18-14. The Rebels players were excellent in their free throw shooting. Van Heel was nine for 10 at the line, Dewey was two for two at a crucial point in the game and Youngs was two for two. With a minute left in the game, MLWR only led by one, but free throws made the final score 34-29 and the championship ribbons went to the Rebels.
