Local one-act plays advance in competition

'... And Others' takes first

Willow River School's Drama Club students take first place with the play "... And Others" in the Subsection 7A One-Act Play contest held January 27 at Moose Lake Community School.

Willow River students took first place in the Subsection 7A One-Act Play contest held Saturday, January 27, at Moose Lake Community School. Students from Barnum took second place and the students from Aitkin took third.

The students from Willow River and Barnum will will advance to compete in Hibbing on Saturday, February 3.

One-act play coordinator Kris Lyons of Moose Lake told the students before the awards were presented that the competition was close. The plays from each of the winning schools were separated by just one point.

Willow River students involved in "... And Others," a play written by Dennis Bush, include, cast: Kayla Behrman, Addison Postal, McKenzie Anderson, Evan Nelson, Christian Berglund, Austin Rote, Joey Gibson and Erin Wigg; crew: Laney Danelski, stage director; Mackenzie Franko and Steven Bundschuh, lights techs; and Dakota Franko, Anna Molis and Maxwell Radzak, stage techs. Rick Frentress is the director.

Barnum's play, "The Winner," takes second. Both advance to competition in Hibbing on Saturday, February 3.

Barnum's cast and crew for "The Winner," by B. Dwayne Craft, includes: Xavier Carlson, Lucas Koecher, Jennette Schmitt, Shelby Bonneville, Arraya Laitinen, Billie Jo Laitinen, Jessica Schatz, Annabel Lembke, Oliver Swimeley, Alec Sparks, Lenorah Korpela, Kyle Baker, Josie Langhorst, Ellie Varo, Luke Myhre, Laec Lekander and Jaileigh Horton; Kaitlynn Hooper-Sparks was the Mistress of Ceremonies; Mia Westerberg was stage manager; Tyler Monfeldt, lights; and Aaron Rimolde, sound. Corey Hunt was the director.

Moose Lake students presented the play, "Check Please," a comedy by Jonathan Rand. Rand described the play on the back of the script: "Dating can be hard, especially when your date happens to be a raging kleptomania, or your grandmother's bridge partner, or a mime. 'Check Please' follows a series of blind dinner dates that couldn't get any worse - until they do."

Moose Lake students preforming include: Sydney Timonen, Sloan Joseph Benoit (Sean Jungers, understudy), Andrew Burn, Ava Beer, Samuel Knezevich and Hailey Youngberg. Jack Gebhart was the tech crew. Jason Schnoll was the director.

Students from Cromwell, Wrenshall and Deer River also competed.
