Wendell and Elizabeth Lund of Blackhoof Township were recently honored as outstanding conservationists at the annual meeting of the Minnesota Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts held December 3-5 in Bloomington. They were selected by the Carlton Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) for the award.

Each year, the state's SWCDs recognize individuals and organizations for outstanding accomplishments in implementing conservation practices and improving Minnesota's natural resources. The award program is conducted with support from "The Farmer" magazine.

According to Ryan Clark, Carlton SWCD, the Lunds were recognized for a variety of reasons. Following is a summary of some of the reasons why they were chosen:

- Their farm met requirements to become Minnesota Agriculture Water Quality Certified.

- Prescribed grazing plan protects riparian and other sensitive landscape features, while promoting maximum forage production.

- Stream restoration planned for failed red clay dam winter of 2018.

"We're really proud of Wendell and Elizabeth and what they have done for conservation in Carlton County," said Clark. "Wendell and Elizabeth provide a wonderful example for conservationists by pursuing a fully implemented conservation plan on the entire property."
