On Wednesday, October 11, the Moose Lake/Willow River/Barnum Rebels cross country team headed way north to the Pincushion Trails of Grand Marais for the Polar League Conference Championships. With nice weather the last few days it was hoped the course would be in nice shape for running. Unfortunately, there wasn't enough warm weather or time to dry from past rains and some of the lower areas were wet. With temps in the mid-50s and partly sunny skies, the weather for running was great.

The junior high once again ran 2.6km with the varsity and JV ran a normal 5km course. The top 10 runners in each race received medals with the top 10 varsity runners being considered All Conference.

The Rebels varsity girls had their best team finish of the season with a second place out of eight schools and two runners going All Conference. The winner of the race was Autumn Smith of North Shore in a time of 21:02.2. Rebels Coriella Sheetz finished fourth in 21:40.7, Kelli Granquist seventh in 21:52.4, Lexi Tekippe 15th in 23:15.3, Savannah Gamst 18th in 23:42.0, Sarah Michels 21st in 24:08.8 and Delaney Koecher 29th in 25:48.7.

The varsity Rebels boys team was third out of the eight schools with one runner going All Conference. The winner of the race was Jake Paron of North Shore in a time of 16:46.2. Rebels Ethan Olson finished second in 16:55.4, Lake Doran 11th in 17:57.1, Maverick Koecher 13th in 18:21.3, Tan Dipman 15th in 18:25.9, Danny Whited 18th in 18:44.4 and Johnathan Danelski 22nd in 19:28.7.

The JV girls had four runners with Maddy Stadin finishing 11th in 27:08.4, Kelly Crump 13th in 29:38.8, Ella Rhoades 14th in 30:07.9 and Leah Rhoades 15th in 30:11.1.

The JV boys team had a first place finish with two runners receiving medals: Spencer Lower was fourth in 20:16.6 and Wheeler Anderson was ninth in 20:26.4. Henry Collier finished 11th in 20:41.8, Lucas Koecher 13th in 21:09.0, Sam Stadin 14th in 21:10.1, David Webb 15th in 21:27.7, Levi Granda 19th in 22:05.1, Joseph Mikrot 20th in 22:06.9, Everett Gamst 21st in 22:08.5, Grant Pettit 22nd in 22:31.5, Hunter Olsen 24th in 22:45.0, Levi Skelton 26th in 23:03.8, Levi Schoenrock 27th in 23:39.4 and Carl Halverson 30th in 26:00.8.

The junior high girls had four runners with two of them receiving medals: Rikimae Duevel was fifth in 12:11.7 and Abbey Erwin seventh in 12:33.2. Rayna Klejeski finished 11th in 13:14.6 and Anna Molis 21st in 16:36.8.

The last meet of the season for all but the Rebels varsity team was Tuesday, October 17, at the Proctor Invite. The Rebels varsity girls and boys will then be in Cloquet on Thursday, October 26, for the Section 7A Championship with those who qualify continuing to the State Meet on November 4 in Northfield.
