Softball teams take first

The Moose Lake/Willow River United Country Rebels softball team takes first place in the Gold Division of the 12U Playoffs of the Arrowhead Fastpitch League. They defeated a tough Proctor Rocket team in a back and forth game, winning 8-7 in the bottom of the last inning on a triple by Lyndee Mlaskoch that scored Janna Bode and Alexis Hoffmann. The Rebels then defeated Twin Ports Rampage Green 9-0 in the championship game. Sarah Christy pitched both games and had a total of 31 strikeouts in 10 innings. The Rebels finished their league play undefeated with 16 wins and no losses.

The Moose Lake/Willow River Dairy Queen Blizzards take first place in the 14U Silver Division at the USSSA State Championships held at Braun Park in Cloquet on July 8 and 9. The Blizzards won one game and lost two in pool play to place them in the Silver Division. They then defeated the Northern Outlawz from Barnum 7-3 and the MN Blast from Cloquet 3-1 to win the Silver Championship.
