Barnum boys, MLWR girls retain Polar Cup

Barnum boys golf team: Assistant Coach Cullen Franek, Trevor Houck, Head Coach Brent Donaldson, Brandon Calverley, Nolan Wickstrom, Lucas Koecher, Isaac Konu, Dawson Collelo, Assistant Coach Tom Collelo.

The 2017 Polar Cup meet between Barnum, Moose Lake/Willow River and Two Harbors was played at 29 Pines Golf Course in Mahtowa on Thursday, May 4. The Barnum boys defended and retained the cup as did the Moose Lake/Willow River girls.

Moose Lake/Willow River girls team: Ellie Neumann, Future-Hope Vang, Maren Mesojedec and Ruby Mohelsky.

Barnum's winning boys team, with a score of 164, was led by Brandon Calverley at 38. He was followed by Nolan Wickstrom at 39, Trevor Houck at 43, Dawson Collelo at 44, Lucas Koecher at 47 and Isaac Konu at 51.

Hunter Klund, with a score of 36, was the meet's medalist. The second-place MLWR boys team came in at 175. Carter Johnson was at 41, Jonathan Danelski and Reese Greene each came in at 49 and Nick Kenyon finished with a 61.

MLWR's winning girls score was 189 and they were led by Future-Hope Vang and Ruby Mohelsky at 45 each. Maren Mesojedec shot a 48 and Ellie Neumann came in at 51.

Geana Guillard was the top girl for Barnum with a 45 and Madeline Nelson was one stroke back at 46. Delaney Koecher shot a 50. Maddie Manahan, Alivia Stahlbusch and Madelyn Jepsen came in at 59, 62 and 64, respectively.

The Great River Conference Championships are slated for Thursday, May 18, at Cuyuna Country Club.
