Bombers squeak by Bluejackets

Barnum Bomber Reece Parks pushes through the Hibbing Bluejackets.

It was a hard fought battle as the Barnum Bombers boys basketball team hosted the Hibbing Bluejackets February 24.

It was a double whammy with Bombers Reece Parks and Daniel Gilchrist in the first half dropping a volley of threes, along with Nolan Wickstrom also hitting a long bomb for three. Kyle Kielty drove in for two and drew the foul to add another point, Samuel Goodwin also added two points to give the Bombers the 29-22 lead going into halftime.

The second half had the Bluejackets outscoring the Bombers 30-26, but it was not enough to overcome the Bombers' first half lead.

Barnum's Colton Ziegler found his rhythm as he dominated the defense as he continually pulled down the defensive rebounds, not giving the Bluejackets many second chance baskets.

The Bombers were led by senior Parks with 17 points, while Gilchrist followed close behind with 14 points. Goodwin added 11 points, while Kielty landed just five points. Rounding out the scoring for the Bombers was Tyler Nynas with five points and Wickstrom with three points. The Bombers claimed the 55-52 victory over the Bluejackets.
