In the final meet of the season for junior high and junior varsity Rebels runners, the Moose Lake/Willow River/Barnum cross country team went to the Proctor Lions Invite on Tuesday, October 18. With a partly sunny evening, temperatures in the low 60s and a slight breeze, the day was meant for running.

In this meet, the top 40 junior high runners earned ribbons and the top 15 junior varsity and varsity runners earned medals. Junior high runners ran two laps for a 3,400-meter course and the JV and varsity runners ran three laps to total 5K.

Running for the junior high girls and receiving a ribbon was Lexi Korbel, 20th in 16:53; and Anna Molis, 45th in 25:24.

The boys junior high team had a ninth place finish with two runners receiving ribbons: Grant Pettit, 31st in 15:09; and Levi Granda, 32nd in 15:13. The rest of the team consisted of Carl Halverson, 43rd in 16:14; Anson Vargo, 46th in 16:30; Sam Collier, 61st in 19:18; and Nathan Nyblom, 66th in 21:26.

In the junior varsity girls race the team had a third place finish with three runners receiving medals: Meghan Granquist, sixth in 25:29; Giannalisa Siebott, 11th in 26:28; and Charis Blacklock, 12th in 26:41. The other runners were Steph Maciej, 19th in 29:25; Mari Andersen, 20th in 29:38; and Lily Geil 23rd in 30:38.

The JV boys team had another first place finish with seven runners receiving medals. They are Aaron Bode, with another first place in 19:27; Maverick Koecher, second in 19:35; Henry Collier, fourth in 19:44; Tim Vogt, fifth in 20:05; David Webb, 10th in 20:15; Jonathan Danelski, 11th in 20:17; and Lucas Koecher, 12th in 20:22. Along with them was Michael Olson, 20th in 20:55; Wheeler Anderson, 22nd in 21:09; Sam Stadin, 32nd in 21:55; Adam Dragicevich, 34th in 22:02; Levi Skelton, 45th in 23:02; Spencer Lower, 47th in 24:06; and Nate Jungers, 48th in 24:09.

The Rebels varsity girls team had a third place finish with Savannah Gamst receiving a medal for fourth in 20:52; Laya Danelski, 27th in 23:07; Lexi Tekippe, 33rd in 23:44; Sydney Bexell, 36th in 23:57; Kelli Granquist, 37th in 24:06; and Sophie Richardson, 38th in 24:17.

The Rebels varsity boys team also had a third place finish with two runners receiving medals: Ethan Olson, first and a school record in 16:33.5; and Mark Fossum, 14th in 18:22; along with Lake Doran, 16th in 18:35; Danny Whited, 21st in 18:49; Tan Dipman, 29th in 19:04; and Jacob Danelski, 32nd in 19:14.

The Rebels varsity girls and boys teams will be running at the Section 7A Championship Meet at the Cloquet Country Club Thursday, October 27. The boys will race first at noon, followed by the girls at 12:50 p.m. With the top two teams and eight individual runners qualifying for the State Cross Country Meet at St. Olaf College in Northfield on Saturday, November 5.
