MLWR Rebels buzz by Barnum Bombers

Rebel Ally Bode had six kills, six digs and two service aces on Thursday, September 8, in Barnum.

The Moose Lake/Willow River Rebels buzzed by the Bombers in straight sets in an hour-long match at Barnum on Thursday, September 8.

The Rebels flew to a 25-6 win in the first set. MLWR head coach Beckie Jackson showed sportsmanship and substituted freely to get other players experience in the second set and the Rebels won 25-17. Barnum had its best showing in the third set as they lost only 25-19 with mostly MLWR starters playing.

MLWR improved to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in Polar League play. Barnum continues to look for its first win.

The Rebels used a two setter system and DonnaMae Smith fired up the offense with 11 set assists. Smith added two service aces and she had six digs. Skyler Hoffman had four set assists and six digs.

Sage Gerard had six kills, 10 digs and one service ace. Ally Bode also had six kills and six digs and she added two service aces. Maddie Olson had five solo blocks and four kills. Ruby Mohelsky had three service aces and five digs. Josie Benzie had seven digs. Nicole Newham had two set assists, one kill and one assisted block. Steph Pasek, Adre Dobosenski, Suzy Grutkoski and Lauren Pederson each added one dig.

Some sparse statistics were supplied for Barnum. Senior outside hitter Jessica Bird had two kills and she had two service aces. Junior middle hitter Emily Miletich had two solo blocks. Senior right hitter Jamie Bird had one solo block. Sophomore setter Meghan Liimatainen had one service ace.

Neither team ended up being very effective on the service game. The Rebels had eight service aces and six service errors. Barnum had three service aces and five service errors.

The Rebels host a good Cook County Vikings team on Thursday, September 15, in Moose Lake. The important Polar League match has a 6:30 p.m. early start. Barnum is at South Ridge on Thursday, September 15, at 7 p.m. The Rebels and the Bombers are both at the Crosby-Ironton tournament on Saturday, September 17, with play set to begin at 9 a.m.
