Barnum Bombers battle to the end

Barnum Bomber Reece Parks catches the opening kickoff and returns it 80 yards for the touchdown.

The Barnum Bombers hosted the Warriors of Deer River for the second game of the season on September 9.

Deer River kicked off the ball to the Bombers to begin the game. The Bombers' Reese Parks received the ball near the Bombers' 20 yard line and ran the ball back to the Deer River end zone, giving the Bombers the early lead in the opening seconds of the game, but failing to convert the two-point conversion.

Deer River, however, marched the ball down the field during their opening drive and tied the game 6-6, as their extra point kick failed.

The Bombers took back the lead with a nice pass play from quarterback Tyler Nynas to receiver Logan McNulty for the touchdown, with the two-point conversion failing once again.

Deer River again marched the ball up the field with a combination of passing and ball carrying to tie the game 12-12, with their two-point conversion attempt failing.

The Bombers' next drive failed to add any points to the score forcing the Bombers to punt the ball away, turning the ball over to Deer River.

Deer River began to move the ball up the field again, but a nice hit by Bomber Colton Zambory caused the Deer River running back to fumble. Bomber Trevon Rilea picked up the loose ball and ran it back for the Bombers' touchdown, again with the two-point conversion failing.

With time in the first half winding down, the Warriors of Deer River again tied the game, 18-18, with the Deer River two-point conversion failing once again. The Bombers and Warriors went into halftime tied at 18 points apiece.

The second half had both teams coming out with the mission of keeping each other from scoring. This was a back and forth battle of defenses as neither allowed the other to score. Soon, though, the Warriors found a gap in the Bombers defense and exploited it, driving the ball into the end zone to take the 24-18 lead, with their two-point conversion attempt failing.

The game ended with the Bombers failing to score in the second half, giving the win to Deer River.
