Seger Jepson slides in safe after his infield home run.

The Barnum Wurst U12 baseball team advances past the No. 2 seated Cloquet White team.

The Wurst started out taking on the Cloquet White team in a makeup game on Sunday, July 24. This game was to be played on Thursday, July 21, but was postponed due to extreme heat.

The Wurst came up first to bat and they showed they were there to play ball. Layne Wickstrom got on base with a walk. Next, Seger Jepson came up to bat and smashed the ball to the deep outfield giving him an infield two-run home run. The next batter hit a nice bouncer to get on base, bringing up John Stevens Jr. who also smashed a nice hit to deep left center for his very own two-run home run. This ended the inning as the Wurst team scored four runs, which is the most possible to score in the first four innings of the game. Caleb Hautajarvi took the mound for the Wurst team and pitched a nice inning, shutting out the Cloquet White in the first inning.

The second inning had the Wurst team scoring, but only two runs this time. The White team scored two runs in this inning. The White team made a run at the lead, but the Wurst team held on. Hautajarvi began to show he was tiring on the mound, so the Wurst team call on Wickstrom to take the mound, striking out the last couple batters from the White team.

The Wurst team ended the season for the second ranked Cloquet White team 11-9. The Wurst team was set to take the field July 26.

Meanwhile, the Hawks of Barnum took the field against the No. 1 ranked Cloquet Blue team. The Hawks started out slow, allowing the Blue to jump to an early lead.

Late in the game, the Hawks made a move, but fell just short as the Cloquet Blue team took the 9-7 victory, ending the Hawks' season.
