Mustangs gallop past Silver Bay

The MLWR North States Crane & Hoist Mustangs wrapped up the season on Wednesday, July 20, with a game against Duluth East.

The MLWR North States Crane & Hoist Mustangs galloped past Silver Bay with a 9-3 six inning win in their first game of Arrowhead 16/18 and Under Fastpitch League tournament action at Braun Park in Cloquet on Tuesday, July 19. The Mustangs only out-hit Silver Bay 5-4, but the opponents suffered six errors.

Lilli Skelton struck out one and walked four. Skelton had very good support from her defense as the Mustangs had only one error. Silver Bay's two pitchers combined for three strikeouts and five walks. The Mustangs stranded six while Silver Bay stranded five runners. The Mustangs went 2-for-3 on steals while Silver Bay attempted no steals.

Amber Lehti led the Mustangs with a three RBI double and a single. Josie Benzie had an RBI single. Kayla Behrman had a double. Skelton had a single.

Mustangs beat by Blast

The Mustangs were beat 7-2 by the Minnesota Blast in the night cap of playoff action on Tuesday, July 19, at Braun Park in Cloquet.

Rachel Christy had two singles. Josie Benzie and Behrman each had an RBI single. Jamie Benzie and Dallis Kukuk each had a single and scored a run.

Mustangs lose by only one to Duluth East

The Mustangs worked to come back from a 5-2 sixth inning deficit, but lost 5-4 in a seven inning game to Duluth East at Wade 7 in West Duluth on Wednesday, July 20, as Arrowhead 16/18 and Under Fastpitch League tournament action continued and wrapped up the 2016 summer season.

Although Skelton struck out, no one and walked four and gave up eight hits, she got decent run support and very strong defensive help. The Mustangs had seven hits and committed only one error that did not cost a run. East's pitcher struck out seven and walked three while surviving five costly errors by her defense.

East went 4-for-5 on steals while the Mustangs went 2-for-2 on steals. East stranded six runners while the Mustangs stranded eight runners.

Skelton did the best she could to support her cause at the plate as she had three singles, including one for an RBI. Kukuk had a double. Behrman, Christy and Liz Risacher each had a single.
