Outlaws come up short at Esko

Zion Smith had two singles and scored one run for the Outlaws July 12 at Esko.

The Outlaws had a 1-0 first inning lead, but trailed 5-1 in the bottom of the fourth before coming up short and losing 6-3 at Esko on Tuesday, July 12. Esko out-hit the Outlaws 9-6, including three doubles, while the Outlaws had one double. The Outlaws went to a record of 7-16.

Esko's starting pitcher had six innings with one strikeout, two walks, five hits and two runs. Esko's reliever had one inning with no strikeouts, two walks, one hit and one run.

Chris Carlson started for the Outlaws and pitched three innings with five strikeouts, six walks, three hits and three runs. Teddy Ryan pitched two innings with one strikeout, no walks, five hits and three runs. Joey Whited finished the game with no strikeouts, one walk, one hit and no runs.

Esko had two errors while the Outlaws had three errors. Esko went 3-for-3 on steals while the Outlaws went 1-for-2 on steals. Esko stranded 11 runners while the Outlaws stranded eight runners.

Wyatt Lampel led the Outlaws as he went 3-for-4, including a double with two singles and he scored two runs. Zion Smith had two singles and he scored a run. Rex Janke got two runs to score. Ryan had a fielder's choice RBI. Charlie Adamczak had a single.

Ryan and Joey Whited grounded to short to start the game, but Lampel doubled to dead center. Janke's fly to shallow center was muffed to score Lampel for 1-0. Charlie Adamczak singled to center, but Carlson hit into a force.

Carlson issued a lead-off walk, but got one watching on an inside heater at the letters and fanned the next. A very deep, difficult and wind-blown fly to center was misjudged for 1-1 and a RBI single was sliced to right for 2-1. Esko stole its first and Carlson walked his second. Hunter Halverson made a good play on the third base side to make the pivot and get the force at second.

Smith singled to right, but Jesse Granfors fanned and Halverson hit into a force. After a wild pitch allowed Halverson a base, Ryan bounced to first.

Carlson had an easy play on a rap back and got his third K on a wave at an off-speed pitch. He walked one and threw a wild pitch and threw another wild pitch and walked another for runners on the corners, got out of trouble with a high heater.

Whited flew out to center. Lampel's second hit was a stroked single to left, but Janke hit into a force and Adamczak flied to center.

A sharp single was spanked to left. Carlson took care a hot one back to the mound and spun and got the lead runner. Esko executed a hit-and-run for runners on the corners. A run was surrendered on an errant throw to first trying to turn a double play for 3-1. Carlson walked one, Esko stole its second base and a walk loaded the bases, but Carlson got one looking to get out of more trouble.

Carlson was hit-by-pitch and stole. Smith flied to deep center, but the Outlaws lost a runner as an appeal was made and upheld for the runner leaving early on the tag-up. Granfors grounded to the right side.

Ryan took over the pitching duties, but was greeted with a double to center. The Outlaws got an out at first, but a double to center scored a run for 4-1. A steal of third and a double to center made it 5-1 before a soft liner to first got the runner at second doubled up.

Halverson was Esko's first walk, but he was out stealing before Ryan walked. Whited hit into a very close call on a double play.

The Outlaws third error was a grounder to third. A sacrifice bunt moved the runner. Halverson saved a run as he hustled after an infield hit, but a single went to left for 6-1 before a fly to left.

Lampel ran out an infield hit and reached second on a hurried and errant throw. Janke pasted one to center and got the run in for 6-2, but he was thrown out trying to get a double. Adamczak and Carlson each flied to left.

Whited relieved Ryan and walked his first, but Jesse Granfors erased the runner with a rocket to first. Halverson made a tough play on a catch of a shallow pop over his shoulder on the apron and a drive to center was an out.

Esko went to a relief pitcher and Smith's single was his second hit. Granfors and Halverson both walked to load the bases. Ryan got a fielder's choice RBI for 6-3 as Esko tried for a double play. Whited popped out behind third. The tying runs came to the plate, but Esko got the 3-for-4 Lampel out and the two runners were stranded.
