The Outlaws came back from an early 3-0 deficit to edge Deer River by a score of 4-3 in the first game of a double header in American Legion action in Moose Lake on Thursday, July 7.

Barnum's right-handed pitching ace Chris Carlson had his heat but not his control and exited after two innings with four strikeouts, five walks, two hits and with the score at 3-3. Carlson lost what would have been two more strikeouts on dropped third strikes

Moose Lake's Rex Janke took over and completed the game with four strikeouts, three walks, two hits and no runs in five innings. Janke lost one strikeout on a dropped third strike. Deer River's pitcher threw a complete game with one strikeout, two walks, seven hits and four runs.

Deer River was severely impacted by six errors while the Outlaws had two errors. Deer River had two steals and the Outlaws had one steal. The Outlaws stranded five runners while Deer River stranded nine runners.

The Outlaws out-hit Deer River 7-4. Teddy Ryan had an infield hit, a single and two RBIs. Carlson had a single and an infield hit. Janke had a solo home run. Joey Whited had a game-winning walk-off RBI single. Charlie Adamczak had a single. Zion Smith had an infield hit.

Carlson walked the lefty lead-off, but fired back to fan his first. Carlson lost a strikeout to a dropped third strike and an errant throw down to first. Deer River got an infield hit deep in the shortstop hole and a walk loaded the bases. Carlson tried a pick-off throw to third, but it was a two-run error as it went out of play for 2-0. Carlson burned one by for a strikeout, walked his third, but got the next to wave at curve.

Teddy Ryan's soft roller to the left side was an infield hit and Carlson's smash to third was also an infield hit, but Wyatt Lampel hit into a double play and Joey Whited flied to left.

A double was belted to the opposite alley, but Carlson came back to notch his fourth K. A wild pitch moved the runner to third and a walk and a steal followed for runners on second and third. A dropped third strike with a late and high throw down loaded the bases. A roller to first was enough for a RBI and 3-0. A hit-by-pitch followed, but Carlson made a good play to cover on a bouncer to first.

Janke crushed one of his first-pitch favorites to the power alley for a solo homer and 3-1 to start the bottom of the second inning. Charlie Adamczak shot one under the third baseman's glove plus the pick was not cleanly made in left to allow Adamczak to hustle to second. Jesse Granfors popped to first, but Hunter Halverson reached on an error at short. Zion Smith ripped an infield hit off the pitcher's glove and as the second baseman tried to make a play it was an errant throw. Ryan poked one into shallow right field for one RBI and 3-2. Another run came in for 3-3 as the fielder choose to throw Ryan out at first. Carlson's nub in front stranded one.

Carlson walked the first batter he faced in the top of the third for his fifth free ticket and it prompted the Outlaws to go to Janke in relief. Deer River would get just two hits with four walks, but no runs in five innings pitched by the recent Moose Lake graduate.

The Outlaws would not get a hit until the bottom of the seventh with the game still knotted at 3-3. Smith popped foul to first, but Ryan got his second hit with a sharp single up the middle. Carlson reached as a miscue at short was Deer River's sixth error. Lampel was hit-by-pitch to bring up Whited with the bases juiced. Whited stroked a game-winning RBI single into center for the 4-3 comeback victory.
