Barnum Bombers Madeline Nelson and Geana Guillard compete in the Girls State Class A Golf Tournament recently.

For the fourth year in a row the Barnum Bombers sent representatives to the Girls State Class A Golf Tournament. Geana Guillard and Madeline Nelson both advanced from section finals in Virginia May 26, with a tense final few moments as they had to wait for one final golfer who could have forced the two Bombers into a shootout. As the day came to an end, Guillard and Nelson learned the final golfer came in one stroke over the Bombers, allowing both to advance to state competition.

The girls competed during the State Class A Golf Tournament June 14-15 at Pebble Creek Golf Course in Becker.

The morning started off chilly and cloudy as the ladies started out early, heading to the course at 8:30 a.m. with Nelson hitting the course first and Guillard following in the second group.

Guillard and Nelson drove off the tee well. The struggle came with putting. As the first day progressed, storms rolled in and rain began to fall at about the 11th hole. The weather didn't seem to affect the Bombers as they continued to drive well. As the first day came to an end, Guillard and Nelson found themselves playing better than the previous year, but still behind the leaders.

The second day, the Bombers hit the course a little earlier than the previous day. Nelson again led the way with Guillard following in the next group.

Nelson mirrored her score from the previous day, scoring the same. Guillard, on the other hand, didn't do quite as well on the front nine, however, she scored better on the back nine. Both ladies improved their scores from the previous year's tournament.

Kelsey Timm returned to the state tournament, but this time as a coach to help Guillard and Nelson on the course. It seemed she was able to keep the ladies relaxed during competition.
