Man charged in Barnum kidnapping

Eliezer Rodriguez

According to the Carlton County Sheriff's Office, on June 13 at 5:30 p.m. the sheriff's office received a report of a burglary/kidnapping in the city of Barnum.

Upon responding, deputies learned a resident had returned home to find an unknown male in her residence. The suspect displayed a handgun, robbed the woman and forced her to drive him to a location in Pine County. The suspect was dropped off and the victim left the scene unharmed.

Through the investigation, deputies learned the identity of the suspect and sent an "attempt to locate" to other law enforcement agencies. At approximately 6:30 a.m. on June 14, 23-year-old Eliezer Rodriguez of Olivia was arrested by the Prior Lake Police Department. Carlton County deputies then took custody of Rodriguez and transported him to the Carlton County Jail, where he is being held pending $150,000 bail.

According to reports, Rodriguez was charged June 16 in State District Court in Carlton County with felony kidnapping, aggravated robbery, burglary and threatening violence.

At this time, there does not appear to be any connection between the suspect and the victim.
