Moose Lake/Willow River Rebel Ally Bode had two singles, one double, one triple and a home run for four RBIs against the Pine City Dragons on May 16 in Willow River.

The Moose Lake/Willow River Rebels conquered the Pine City Dragons 19-9 in a game that featured 31 total hits in Willow River on Monday, May 16. The Rebels out-slugged the Dragons 19-12 with MLWR getting 10 singles and nine extra-base hits including five doubles, two triples and two home runs. Every MLWR batter had at least one RBI. Pine City had eight singles and four doubles.

Ally Bode worked for her 14th win in 17 starts as she struck out six and walked four. Only one Rebel struck out.

After trailing 6-4 in the fourth, the Rebels brought out a mix of light and heavy artillery and exploded for 14 runs on 14 hits and two errors to take a commanding 18-6 lead.

Pine City suffered a total of five errors with one in the third inning that eventually led to a run on a wild pitch. Two more miscues haunted the Dragons during MLWR's big fourth inning. The Rebels had only one error in the outfield to allow one extra base and a run in the third inning.

Bode greatly helped her cause as she went a perfect 5-for-5 and hit for what is known as the cycle. That fairly rare accomplishment included two singles, a walk-off RBI double, a one RBI triple and a two-run homer for four RBIs and she scored three runs. Suzy Grutkoski went 3-for-3 with a two-RBI triple and she scored three runs. Marissa Mikrot went 3-for-4 with one double and two singles for two RBIs and she scored three runs. Jessica Paull had a two-run homer and she scored two runs. Sage Gerard went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and she scored two runs. Nicole Newham had a double and two RBIs.

The first inning went by quickly with Bode getting a single, but being stranded on second. The Dragons got a walk, struck out once, but a single went through the right side, and a wild pitch preceded another walk to load the bases. A rap back to circle was a force at home and MLWR escaped as Mikrot threw to second for a smartly executed double play to exit unscathed.

MLWR threatened a bit in the bottom of the second as Sage Gerard reached on an error and took second on the overthrow, but was stranded.

Mikrot hung onto a foul tip to start the third, but a Dragon singled and a hard single to center was misplayed to allow a run. A single made it runners on the corners and a grounder to short was a fielder's choice RBI for 2-0 with the runner advancing to third. A laser of a single was ripped off Newham's glove at first for 3-0 and a walk followed. A single went to right, but a runner rounding third retreated. Bode took care of business with the bases loaded for her fourth strikeout.

Dallis Kukuk flied to shallow right. Grutkoski's bunt brought forth a low throw and Bode singled up the middle. Lauren Pederson hit a solid RBI double to center for 3-1. Two consecutive wild pitches occurred with the second costing a run for 3-2. Mikrot doubled to left for 3-3 and Sami Nylen pinch-ran. Paull grounded to third, but it was not picked cleanly. Newham walked and Gerard dropped a shallow fly behind third for 4-3. Jamie Benzie reached on an error, but the Dragons got Kukuk to get out of bases loaded.

After a strikeout Pine City strung together a trio of singles for 4-4. A fly to right advanced a runner to third on a tag-up and a give-me steal followed. A two-RBI ground rule double put the Dragons up 6-4 with a runner on third. Mikrot was quick to get a wild pitch and Bode covered to apply the tag.

Grutkoski singled and Bode tripled for 6-5. Although Pederson fouled to third, Mikrot rocketed an RBI past third to knot it up. Paull completely crushed a towering two-run homer way over the fence in left for 8-6. After Newham struck out, the Rebels quickly racked up five runs. Gerard reached on an error and Benzie's bunt single was thrown away. Kukuk singled to right for 10-6. Grutkoski hustled for a triple and 11-6. Bode busted a line shot of a two-run homer to the power alley for 13-6. Pederson and Mikrot singled and Paull reached an infield roller to load the bases for Newham to paste a two-RBI double off the plastic in center for 15-6. Gerard dropped a single into left. Although Benzie's foot came off the bag as she tried for a triple and was tagged out, it was good for 18-6. The Rebels had racked up 14 runs on 14 hits and two errors to lead by 12 runs.

The Dragons breathed a bit more fire. Bode walked her third, Mikrot dug out a third-strike change up and a line drive to center was right at Benzie. A walk and an RBI double made it 18-7 and advanced runners to second and third with a hit-by-pitch to follow. Pine City got its fourth double of the game for 18-9 before the Rebels extinguished any further threat.

Kukuk grounded to second, but Grutkoski was hit-by-pitch and stole. Bode completed the cycle with a walk-off double to the power alley for 19-9.
