Lauren Pederson went 2-for-3 and helped the Rebels with two singles and two RBIs.

Ally Bode was a star on the rubber and Jessica Paull was a star at the plate as the Moose Lake/Willow River Rebels girls shut out the Hinckley-Finlayson Jaguars 17-0 in five innings at Willow River on Friday, April 15. The Rebels had 11 hits in the game.

Bode got nearly flawless support from her defense as she struck out four and walked no one in her five inning shut out. The only Jaguar to reach base came on the Rebels' lone error. Hinckley-Finlayson's chances were severely hampered by nine walks and five errors. MLWR burned up the bases with eight steals.

Senior clean-up hitter and slugger Paull was red hot at the plate as she went 4-for-4, including two doubles and five RBIs and she scored two runs. Bode helped her cause as she went 2-for-4, including a two-RBI triple and she scored three runs. Lauren Pederson went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Lead-off Suzy Grutkoski stole twice and scored four runs.

MLWR rolled through the top of the first with a strikeout and two grounders chewed up by Paull at third with two long stretches by Nicole Newham at first for a 1-2-3 inning.

Rebel lead-off hitter Grutkoski took a walk. Grutkoski stole before Bode flied to left. Pederson reached on a dropped third strike and Grutkoski moved to third. Paull's rip past third was a two-RBI double. Marissa Mikrot walked. Sage Gerard's towering fly to third was dropped to load the bases. Josie Benzie's grounder to short was booted for 3-0 and she stole before Newham struck out.

A fly to right, a pop to short and a smart tag by Newham to save an error gave the Rebels another 1-2-3 inning.

Jamie Benzie walked and stole. Grutkoski walked as well. With Bode up, MLWR continued to run rampant with a double steal. Bode delivered with a two-RBI triple for 5-0. Pederson walked and stole. Paull singled in Bode for 6-0. Mikrot's grounder became a two-base, two-run error for 8-0. Gerard popped to first, but Josie Benzie singled through the left side for 9-0. Grutkoski walked to juice the bases for Bode. The Jaguars' shortstop started to go to third, but hesitated before failing to throw out Bode at first and another run crossed for 10-0. Pederson singled for two RBIs and 12-0. Paull got her second single and another RBI for 13-0. Mikrot walked. Gerard's infield single was an RBI for 14-0 before Josie Benzie grounded into a force out.

The Jaguars got their lone base runner on MLWR's one error and the runner stole second. Grutkoski made a nice play to look back the runner and gunned to first. Newham tagged out a roller, but the Jaguars threatened to spoil the shut out with the runner advancing to third. A grounder to second stranded the runner and preserved the shut out.

Newham grounded to second off a new pitcher. Jamie Benzie attempted a slap hit. Grutkoski spanked a sharp single through the left side and stole before Bode walked. Pederson rocketed a single under the shortstop's glove for 15-0. Paull belted her second double and picked up her fifth RBI for 16-0 before Hinckley-Finlayson was able to retire Mikrot.

Bode and the Rebels set the Jaguars down 1-2-3 in the top of the fourth.

Gerard popped to short. Josie Benzie reached on an error and stole before pinch-hitter Sam Nylen struck out. Jamie Benzie's slap to third became the fifth error on the Jaguars for 17-0. Grutkoski hustled a short, soft roller to third for the Rebels' 11th and final hit before Bode popped to short.

Bode fooled two Jaguars with butterfly change-ups and Paull ate up one last grounder at third to end it.

The Rebels host the Barnum Bombers in Willow River on Tuesday, April 26, at 4:30 p.m. and do not play at home again until they take on the Two Harbors Agates on Thursday, May 5, in Willow River at 4:30 p.m.
