Butkiewicz breaks hockey record

MLA Rebel Bryceton Butkiewicz hits the upper left corner of the net for his 100th varsity career goal, breaking the school record.

Moose Lake junior Bryceton Butkiewicz is the new program leader with 100 career varsity goals for Moose Lake Area Rebels hockey.

Butkiewicz surpassed Josh Cisar's 98 career goals and tied Tyler Cisar's school record of 99 with four goals in a 10-4 home victory over Ely on January 23. In a following home game against Becker/Big Lake on February 9, Butkiewicz got his record-setting 100th on his first shift and shot of the night. He went on to net a hat trick for the night against the Eagles and scored another goal at Ely on February 12 in their last regular season game.

"It's nothing I could ever have imagined or dreamed of," said Butkiewicz in a recent interview. Butkiewicz has a chance to add to his new school record of 103 goals as the Rebels were set to take on the Legacy Christian Academy Lions February 15 in their first round playoff game.

A breakdown of the hockey seasons for Butkiewicz follows: In his freshman year Butkiewicz scored 26 goals, had 20 assists and 46 points. In his sophomore year he scored 47 goals, had 25 assists and 72 points. So far his junior year he scored 30 goals, has 22 assists and 52 points.

Butkiewicz was also the team scoring leader his two Bantam seasons for the Moose Lake Area Hockey Association before moving up to varsity. As a seventh-grader, Butkiewicz had 84 goals, 28 assists and 112 points. His eighth-grade year he had 99 goals, 89 assists and 160 points.
