Asia Gobel is congratulated by players on the bench after scoring short-handed against Proctor-Hermantown. The goal would be the only one scored by the Rebels in their 6-1 loss in the semifinals of the playoffs.

The Moose Lake Area Rebels girls hockey team ended their season in the playoffs Monday night as they fell to Proctor-Hermantown in the Region 7A semifinals by the score of 6-1 at the Heritage Center in Duluth.

Proctor-Hermantown, the favorite in the region to go to the state tournament, showed why they are ranked No. 6 in Class A by jumping to a 2-0 lead after the first period. During the regular season, the Rebels lost both their games against Proctor-Hermantown.

Five minutes into the second period, however, the Rebels drew close to 2-1 after a beautiful, short-handed goal by sophomore forward Asia Gobel, who was assisted by senior Jessica Paull. It would be the Rebels' only shot on net in the period. The Rebels also had several other good opportunities to score early in the period.

Just a minute later, however, Proctor-Hermantown scored again to make it 3-1, which was followed by another goal late in the second to make it a 4-1 game going into the last period.

Maddy Gamst faced 33 shots on goal in net, stopping 27 of them. Moose Lake Area was out shot 33-15 in the game, including the one shot on net and goal in the second period.

The Rebels ended the year with a 17-9-1 record. Three seniors will graduate, Jessica Paull, Savannah Franklin and Lexi Crocker. The Rebels will be an experienced team next year as six players will be seniors.
