Rebels come back in OT tie

Moose Lake Area Rebel Wyatt Lampel scores the tying goal.

The Moose Lake Area Rebels boys hockey team played the Becker/Big Lake Eagles at the Princeton Ice Arena January 14. At just 1:49 in the period the Eagles got one by Rebels goaltender Logan McNulty making it 1-0 in favor of the Eagles.This was the only goal scored in the first period with both teams having scoring chances - the Rebels with 10 shots on goal and the Eagles with 15 shots on goal.

With a 1-0 lead the Eagles scored again at 1:03 in the second period making it 2-0. Hitting the pipe a few times, the Rebels still could not find the net. At 10:51 the Eagles added to their lead with another goal making it 3-0. Finally Bryceton Butkiewicz, at the 13:46, mark scored for the Rebels with an assist from linemate Devin Murphy 3-1. As the time clicked down to two seconds left in the period, Butkiewicz connected again, this time with an assist from his line-mate Nick Wegge, bringing it to within one for the Rebels, 3-2. Shots on goal in the second were all even at 14 for each team.

Period three remained scoreless for both teams until at 15:06 Rebel Wyatt Lampel tied it up 3-3 with an assist from Butkiewicz.The last two minutes of regulation time both teams were trying hard to get that game winning goal in the net. As time ran out, the score remained 3-3 putting the game into overtime. Shots on goal in the third were all even with nine for each team.

An eight minute overtime period was played before a standing crowd of fans cheering for their teams. The Rebels had the advantage with six overtime shots on goal to three for the Eagles, but neither goaltender let one get by them, ending the game in a 3-3 overtime tie.

Rebel McNulty totaled 38 saves from 41 shots and Eagle Justin Morrow totaled 36 saves from 39 shots. For the Rebels, Butkiewicz ended with two goals and one assist, Lampel one goal, Murphy two assists and Wegge one assist.
