Rebels fall to Jaguars

Thomas Gulson scores five points for the Moose Lake/Willow River Rebels in the December 17 game in Willow River against the Hinckley-Finlayson Jaguars.

The Moose Lake/Willow River Rebels fell 78-50 to the Hinckley-Finlayson Jaguars in Willow River on Thursday, December 17. The Jaguars, with four players in double figures, led 41-22 at halftime. The Jaguars improved to 6-1 while the Rebels went to 1-6 on the season.

Hinckley-Finlayson was led by Travis Visser with 21 points. Cody Dunkley had 19 points, including four three-pointers. T. J. Johnson and Nick Bridenstine each had 10 points with Bridenstine hitting two three-pointers. Ethan Dvorak scored eight points. Chayne Dunkley had four points and Kyle Taggert and Kain Furey each added two points.

The Jaguars and the Rebels each had 31 rebounds. MLWR had 11 steals while Hinckley-Finlayson had eight steals. The Jaguars had 12 assists while the Rebels had eight assists. Hinckley-Finlayson had 13 turnovers while MLWR had 15 turnovers.

The Jaguars went 6-for-14 (43 percent) outside the arc while the Rebels were 10-for-31 (32 percent) on three-pointers. Hinckley-Finlayson had 23-for-48 (48 percent) success in the paint while MLWR went 9-for-33 (27 percent) on the inside. The Jaguars total field rate was 29-for-62 (47 percent) while the Rebels total field goal rate was 19-for-64 (30 percent). Hinckley-Finlayson added 14-for-18 (78 percent) on free throws while MLWR was 2-for-6 (33 percent) on the foul line.

The Rebels next home game is not until Friday, January 8, 2016 against the 0-7 Two Harbors Agates at 7:15 p.m. in Willow River.
