Barnum boys start basketball season with win

The Barnum Bombers boys basketball team began their season hosting the Hinckley-Finlayson Jaguars November 24.

The Bombers started out strong and jumped to an early lead. The Jaguars soon began to cut into that lead.

Senior Chris Carlson was instrumental in the Bombers' early jump with 16 first half points. Mason Agurkis added seven first half points, while Hunter Fetters put up six first half points. Drake Weets added five points and Reece Parks rounded out the first half scoring with one free-throw.

The Bombers headed into halftime with a 35-32 lead.

The second half had the Bombers pounding the ball inside to Fetters for the score, while Carlson continued to drive the lane drawing the fouls and heading to the free-throw line. Fetters put up 13 second half points, while Carlson added 11 points, six of which came from the free-throw line. Parks added six second half points while Agurkis was held to only two.

The Bombers' scoring was led by Carlson with 15 points from three-pointers, six points from in the paint and six free-throw points. Fetters scored 18 points from below the basket, while landing one free-throw. Agurkis landed one three-pointer, four points from below the rim and two free-throws. Parks landed one long ball for three points, two free-throws and a two-pointer. Weets landed one shot from beyond the arc, and one two-pointer.

The Bombers take the season opener 67-58 over the Jaguars.
