Rebels avoid shutout by Mirage

Moose Lake Area Rebel Sage Gerard is active in the November 14 game at Riverside Arena against Chisago Lakes. MLA beat Chisago Lakes 4-1.

The Moose Lake Area Rebels girls hockey team avoided a shutout by the Proctor-Hermantown Mirage as they traveled to Proctor and lost 8-1 on Thursday, November 12. The Mirage only out-shot the Rebels 23-19 with Maddy Gamst taking the loss in goal with 15 saves for 1-1 MLA.

After the Mirage opened with an unassisted even strength goal and an assisted even strength goal, it was Lauren Pederson, assisted by Jamie Bird, to get MLA back to within a goal for 2-1 at 7:03. Proctor-Hermantown answered with an assisted power play goal at 14:23 for 3-1.

The second period was all Mirage with an assisted power play, an unassisted even strength goal and an assisted even strength goal for 6-1.

The Mirage closed out the scoring with a pair of unassisted even strength goals.

MLA rebounds to beat Chisago Lakes

The Rebels rebounded from their first loss to beat Chisago Lakes 4-1 at Riverside Arena in Moose Lake on Saturday afternoon, November 14. Although the Rebels were out-shot 27-16, Gamst stood strong to earn the win with 26 saves. MLA improved to 2-1 with the victory.

Jessica Bird had two goals and an assist to bring her season points total to eight. Asia Gobel had a goal and two assists. Sage Gerard had a goal and an assist.

MLA got the lone goal of the first period on a shorthanded effort by Jessica Bird, assisted by Gobel, for 1-0 at 9:26.

Gobel started the second stanza scoring with an unassisted even strength goal for 2-1 at 2:39. Gerard and Jessica Bird clicked for an even strength goal for 3-1 at 6:06. It was Jessica Bird, assisted by Gobel and Gerard on an even strength goal, for 4-1 at 13:21.

Chisago Lakes was able to spoil Gamst's bid for a shutout with an assisted even strength goal at 5:03 of the third period.

After a Thursday, November 19 game against newly formed Marshall at Mars Lakeview Arena at 7:30 the Rebels host Northern Lakes for a Saturday, November 21, 2 p.m. matinee at Riverside Arena. MLA hosts the Eveleth-Gilbert Golden Bears on Tuesday, November 24, at 7:30 p.m. followed by an away game with Mound Westonka on Saturday, November 28 at 3 p.m.
