Moose Lake/Willow River/Barnum Rebels cross country runners Sydney Bexell, Savannah Gamst, Ethan Olson and Kyle Skelton were in Northfield November 7 for the Minnesota State High School cross country meet.

It was a beautiful day to run, with temperatures almost 50 degrees and sun.

With a total of 175 runners, the girls started the afternoon. The winning time was a blazing 17:52 run by a seventh-grader, beating the second place runner by 50 seconds, with the last runner in at 25:06. Bexell ran a personal best time of 20:31.3 for 64th place and Gamst had a time of 21:27.2 for 125th place.

The boys ran next. The winner had a time of 16:07 and the last runner came across at 20:02. Olson improved from his 111th place finish last year to finish 59th in a time of 17:21.8. Skelton came in 133rd in a time of 18:19.2. The boys had a total of 176 runners.

With the new format of the girls now running a 5K, like the boys, the school record for the girls 4K will now stand with Nicole Tekippe at a time of 15:42.5 that was run at the 2013 section meet. The 5K record for the girls is now held by Bexell from this year's state meet in a time of 20:31.3. The boys 5K record was broken earlier this year at the GNK meet by Olson in a time of 16:53.7.

Once again, all the runners had a very successful season.
