Rebels roll past Rails

Moose Lake/Willow River Rebel Sage Gerard has eight kills, eight digs and three service aces in the game against Proctor October 23.

The Moose Lake/Willow River Rebels closed the regular volleyball season by rolling past the Proctor Rails with a sweep in Moose Lake Friday, October 23. The game scores were 25-20, 25-17, 25-20. MLWR improved to a record of 16-10 while the Rails ended up at 5-20.

Sage Gerard led the Rebels with eight kills, eight digs and three service aces. Libbie Ring had seven kills, two solo blocks and two aces. Scarlett Anderson had seven kills, one solo block and one ace. Ally Bode had four kills, 10 digs and three aces. Skyler Hoffman was credited with 21 set assists, 10 digs and one ace. Jessica Paull added one ace.

Proctor was paced by Maddy Horvath with eight kills and nine digs. Abby Rohweder had six kills, three digs, two blocks and two aces. Marissa Larson had two kills, 12 set assists and 17 digs.

The Rebels had 11 service aces against five service errors. The Rails had seven aces against four service errors.

Despite a record of 16-10, the Rebels ended up with the seventh seed for the sub-section tournament first round and traveled to play the second-seeded 21-6 Aitkin Gobblers Wednesday, October 28 at 7 p.m. in Aitkin. With a win MLWR would advance to the quarterfinals to face the winner of the match between the third-seeded 19-3 Rush City Tigers and the sixth-seeded 15-8 Marshall Hilltoppers at Rush City or Duluth Friday, October 30 at 7 p.m.
