Runners bring home medals

Moose Lake/Willow River/Barnum runners earning medals at the Polar League Conference meet in Grand Marais October 14 are, front: Kelli Granquist, Savannah Gamst, Lake Doran and Kennedy Bryant. The Moose Lake/Willow River/Barnum cross country team was at the Pincushion Trails in Grand Marais on October 14 for the Polar League Conference meet.

With the sun shining and cool temps, everything was set for a nice day of running. Medals were handed out to the top 10 finishers in each race with those at the varsity level being all conference.

The Rebels once again came away with 17 medals out of the possible 60 available to the seven teams present.

Medal winners this year for the girls junior high runners were Kelli Granquist eighth in 12:17 and Ella Rhoades 10th in 12:42.

In the girls junior varsity race it was Kennedy Bryant second in 24:31; Meghan Granquist sixth in 26:26, Chloe Gamst seventh in 26:42 and Lexi Tekippe eighth in 26:54.

All conference medal winner for the varsity girls was Savannah Gamst eighth in 22:03.

Medal winners for the boys junior varsity team were David Webb third in 20:13, Tim Vogt fourth in 20:15, Mark Fossum sixth in 20:30, Tan Dipman seventh in 20:33, Lake Doran ninth in 20:58 and Maverick Koecher 10th in 21:34.

All conference medal winners for the varsity boys are Ethan Olson second in 17:43, Joe Bustrak fifth in 18:38, Kyle Skelton seventh in 18:56 and Jacob Danelski 10th in 19:01.

Both the junior varsity girls and boys teams had a first place finish. Helping their teams were girls junior varsity runner Alexis Oswald 15th in 31:11 and for the boys junior varsity it was Michael Olson 12th in 22:35, Cooper Bexell 16th in 22:54 and Levi Skelton 17th in 22:55.

The varsity girls had a fourth place finish with Sarah Michels 14th in 22:53, Laya Danelski 20th in 24:12, Mallory Agurkis 28th in 25:36 and Charis Blacklock 32nd in 26:42.

The varsity boys team was second with Henry Collier 13th in 19:24, Nick Furey 15th in 19:46 and Aaron Bode 19th in 20:20.

On Tuesday, October 20, the Rebels were at the Proctor Lions Invite CC meet. It was the last race of the season for the runners, except the varsity girls and boys teams who will be in Cloquet on Thursday, October 29, for the Section 7A Championship.
