Cross country runs in Hibbing

Moose Lake/Willow River/Barnum Rebels varsity runners Sophie Richardson and Laya Danelski run at the Hibbing Rotary Club cross country meet October 8.

On Thursday, October 8, the Moose Lake/Willow River/Barnum Rebels cross country team was in Hibbing for the Rotary Club cross country meet. With off and on rain coming down and a cool evening, the conditions of the course were a little wet for running.

In the girls' junior high race, Kelli Granquist was seventh in 14:50 and Ella Rhoades 15th in 15:38.

The junior varsity girls team had a second place finish with Kennedy Bryant first in 23:58, Charis Blacklock sixth in 24:57, Meghan Granquist 16th in 25:43, Lexi Tekippe 19th in 25:50, Chloe Gamst 20th in 25:51 and Lily Geil 31st in 29:34.

The varsity girls had a sixth place finish out of 11 teams. Sydney Bexell was 11th in 21:17, Savannah Gamst 15th in 21:42, Sarah Michels 22nd in 22:10, Nicole Tekippe 44th in 23:19, Laya Danelski 47th in 23:31, Sophie Richardson 51st in 23:54 and Mallory Agurkis 61st in 24:38.

The junior high boys did not run the shorter course the junior high runs, but stepped up and ran with the junior varsity boys team. The junior varsity boys ended up second out of eight teams. The top seven runners were Mark Fossum third in 19:29, David Webb fifth in 19:36, Tim Vogt seventh in 19:48, Danny Whited ninth in 20:04, Lake Doran 19th in 20:41, Sam Cloutier 20th in 20:42 and Ryder Anderson 23rd in 21:04. The other JV runners were Tan Dipman, 24th in 21:06; Maverick Koecher 27th in 21:11; Michael Olson, 29th in 21:20; Cooper Bexell, 47th in 22:09; Levi Skelton, 48th in 22:12; and Evan Nelson, 66th in 24:19.

The varsity boys had a fourth place finish out of 12 teams with Ethan Olson finishing first in 17:09, Kyle Skelton 20th in 18:36, Nick Furey 26th in 18:57, Jacob Danelski 31st in 19:06, Henry Collier 37th in 19:18 and Aaron Bode 43rd in 19:33.

The final three meets of the season for the Rebels are the Polar Conference meet in Grand Marias on Wednesday, October 14, the Proctor Lions Invite on Tuesday, October 20, and the Section 7A Championships in Cloquet on Thursday, October 29.
