MSOP client faces assault charges


A client at the Minnesota Sex Offender Program (MSOP) in Moose Lake assaulted a staff member on Friday, September 18, just before 3 p.m.

According to a complaint filed with the Moose Lake Police Department, a police officer responded to a complaint of an assault on a staff member at the MSOP facility. The staff member reported a client, identified as George Mack Jr., 39, had punched him in the face. His right cheek was swollen and the inside of his mouth was bloody.

The officer viewed a video of the incident and observed Mack hit the staff member on the practice field, and appeared to do so with the intent to cause bodily harm.

Mack has a prior assault conviction dated February 4, 2014.

Mack was charged with felony assault on a secure treatment facility personnel, which carries the maximum sentence of two years and/or a $4,000 fine; and gross misdemeanor assault in the fifth degree, which carries a maximum sentence of one year and/or a $3,000 fine.
