JV boys take home first place honors

The Moose Lake/Willow River/Barnum boys junior varsity team took first in Eveleth September 17. They are, back: David Webb, Tim Vogt, Jacob Danelski, Michael Olson, Levi Skelton and coach Adam Whelan. Front: Sean Jungers, Lake Doran, Danny Whited and Cooper Bexell.

On Thursday, September 17, the Moose Lake/Willow River/Barnum cross country team was at the Eveleth Golf Course for the Eveleth Lions Invite. It was not a very nice night for running.

With storm clouds brewing, they started the girls varsity and junior varsity race. Only about five minutes into the race the clouds opened up and sent a wind driven dumping rain shower on the girls. The girls never quit running and finished the race in the rain.

By the time the boys race started the rain had quit but the damage was done and the course was muddy and large puddles had formed, making for a slow race.

The junior high racers run a shorter course than the junior varsity and varsity does. For the girls it was Coriella Sheetz 32nd in 12:43, Kelli Granquist 34th in 12:53 and Faith Blomquist 38th in 13:23. For the boys it was Sam Cloutier 19th in 9:46, Tan Dipman 23rd in 10:02 and Maverick Koecher 32nd in 10:44.

The girls junior varsity team took second place this week with Chloe Gamst fifth in 27:07, Mallory Agurkis sixth in 27:21, Charis Blacklock seventh in 27:40, Lexi Tekippe 12th in 29:37, Alexis Oswald 16th in 31:14 and Lily Geil 19th in 31:28.

This week it was the boys junior varsity team taking first place honors. Jacob Danelski was first in 21:03, David Webb second in 21:16, Tim Vogt fourth in 21:52, Lake Doran eighth in 22:31, Danny Whited ninth in 22:39, Michael Olson 18th in 23:42, Cooper Bexell 19th in 23:51, Levi Skelton 22nd in 24:01 and Sean Jungers 46th in 30:11.
