Outlaws split doubleheader


After leading but losing 9-7, the Outlaws trailed but came back to nip Taconite 4-3 in a doubleheader in Moose Lake on Tuesday, July 7. Teddy Ryan pitched the complete game in the second game. The Outlaws were out hit 11-6 but made the hits count. Charlie Adamczak had an RBI single, a double and drove in the winning run. David Moonen had a double. Wyatt Lampel had an RBI single.

Ryan adeptly handled a bunt attempt and struck out the next. Fossum committed an error at short. A fly landed on the right field line for runners on the corners and a single through the left side made it 1-0 before Ryan got one looking.

Ryan flied to center. Fossum ran out an infield hit to third. Chris Carlson reached on an error at third. Rex Janke walked. Adamczak dropped an RBI single into right for 1-1 and Lampel dropped a single into center for 2-1. With bases loaded, Joey Whited got caught watching. Jesse Granfors flied to center.

Taconite got a bunt single. A bounce to third was followed by a walk and a force at third. A wild pitch made it runners at second and third before Lampel gobbled up a hopper.

Hunter Halverson bounced to short, Ryan bounced to second and Fossum grounded to short.

Lampel took care of a fly. What seemed to be a single was driven into center, but Halverson charged it, played it on one hop and fired a perfect throw to Janke to get the out. A single went into center, but Granfors gunned down a steal attempt.

Carlson grounded to short, Janke took his second walk, Adamczak belted a stand-up double to the gap. On a bouncer to third the runner was caught up. Whited walked for bases loaded, but Granfors popped to short.

Fossum snagged a liner at short. Whited did a fine job to track down a fly to right. An infield hit preceded a pop out to third.

Halverson tried to stretch a single into a double. Hunter Lake walked but got picked off before Fossum bounced to third.

A single went into left. A bunt single preceded a force at second for runners on the corners. A line shot was robbed by Fossum for a double play.

Carlson struck out, Janke lined to short and Adamczak flied to left.

A single into left was followed by a sacrifice bunt. Whited made a good sliding catch in right. A single into left tied at 2-2 plus there was a one base error to allow the runner to take third before a fly to left.

Lampel reached on an error at third. Whited got the job done with a sacrifice bunt. Granfors bounced to first to move the runner to third but Halverson popped to third.

A single went into left plus an error allowed the runner to go to second. A sacrifice bunt, a single and an intentional walk loaded the bases. A fly to right was a great catch by Whited but the tag up was ruled to have not been too early and it was 3-2. The Outlaws got out of trouble with a fly to second and a chopper out in front.

Ryan grounded to second. Fossum really hustled to earn an infield hit. Moonen doubled to the corner for runners on second and third. Chet Morgan grounded to short to tie the game at 3-3. Adamczak’s grounder to short was booted and the Outlaws came away with the 4-3 victory.
