Lacie O'Leary pitches the Barnum U12 girls into third place at the annual Ashley Abrahamson Memorial Softball Tournament, June 27-28.

The Barnum U12 softball team was one of 12 teams competing at Braun Park in Cloquet at the 16th Annual Ashley Abrahamson Memorial Softball Tournament on June 27 and 28.

The tournament also consisted of 12 U14 teams. The weekend started at 8 a.m., Saturday June 27 for the Barnum U12 girls with a win.

At 12:30, the girls played at against a Grand Rapids team. The Barnum girls had little trouble scoring against them and soon walked away with a second victory.

Next, the Barnum girls took on a team from Rice Lake that looked more like a U14 or U16 team. The Barnum girls were one of only a couple teams able to score on them.

That set them up to play in the top tier of the tournament on Sunday.

Sunday started off at 9 a.m. with the Barnum girls taking on the Panthers. The Barnum girls started out right off the bat hitting against the Panthers and walking away with the victory.

This set the Barnum girls to play in the semifinals against the Cloquet USG team. The Barnum girls struggled against the Cloquet girls, falling behind in the second inning, and not able to rally to come back against Cloquet.

Barnum then went up against the Grand Rapids White team for the 3rd place game.

Grand Rapids jumped Barnum. Barnum then began to rally and regain one of those points and have two runners in scoring position with no outs.

Then the skies filled with lightning and the game was postponed.

The game restarted 30 minutes later, only to be postponed once again due to lightning.

At this, time the Grand Rapids coach approached the Barnum coach to discuss what taction they should take. The final decision from the coaches was to call the game a draw with a tie for third place.

Barnum's Lacie O'Leary was chosen from the Barnum team to join the all-tournament team comprised of one member from each of the competing teams.
