Rebels fall to Hunters in home game

Brad Fossum had a single and a double against Duluth Denfeld on Wednesday, May 20.

The Rebels hosted but fell 7-2 to the Duluth Denfeld Hunters on Wednesday, May 20. Teddy Ryan suffered the loss as he gave up six hits and five runs and four walks in six and one-third innings of work. The Rebels were out-hit just 7-6 by the Hunters.

Brad Fossum led the Rebels at the plate with a single and a double. Rex Janke had an RBI single and Joey Whited drove in ML/WR's other run with a fielder's choice.

Ryan handled a rap back to the box, but walked the next and the Hunters stole second. A slow hopper was charged by Eric Prachar but the runner advanced to third. A hard grounder to Fossum was an error for 1-0 before Prachar took care of a high pop.

Ryan grounded to first. Fossum singled through the left side. Prachar flied long to left. With Kody Gerard at bat, it appeared Fossum would be picked-up but he tore for second and made it. Gerard chopped to second and the Rebels stranded one in scoring position.

Prachar gloved a line drive. Jesse Granfors was called out trying to bunt. Charlie Adamczak singled for runners on the corners. Janke put an RBI on the left field chalk for 1-1. Whited grounded into a force at second but the Rebels runner kept motoring and was safe on a dropped ball at the plate for 2-1. Ryan popped to second.

Wyatt Lampel had an error on a one hopper and a wild pitch put the runner on second. A stand-up double went to alley in left for runners on second and third. A sacrifice fly to right tied the game at 2-2, plus a runner advanced to third. A roller down third became an infield hit and a run for 3-2. A steal attempt was gunned down by Granfors.

Fossum stroked a stand-up double to left. Prachar's sacrifice fly advanced Fossum to third. Gerard rapped back to the pitcher and Fossum got erased. Lampel walked but Granfors flied to shallow left.

Singles were spanked through the left side and the right side. A sacrifice bunt was nicely handled by Granfors but with runners on the corners a sacrifice fly made it 4-2 and despite a great diving catch by Hunter Halverson to save a run the Hunters also had a runner at third. A hopper went back to Ryan.

Adamczak walked. Janke was caught looking. Whited's short fly to right looked to be a hit but it was charged and Whited was thrown out while Adamczak advanced to second. Ryan chopped to first and was safe but Adamczak was out trying to take home.

Ryan walked the first two he faced. A grounder to second was force and almost a double play with a runner to third. Ryan took care of a foul on the third base side. Hunter Halverson made an excellent play lay out and dive for a tailing drive to center to save a run .

Fossum grounded to third and Prachar lined to short. Gerard smacked a single through the left side. Lampel was hit by pitch but Granfors flied to right.

The Rebels got a 1-2-3 with a roller to Lampel, a fly to left and Ryan's first strikeout.

The Hunters also went 1-2-3 with Adamczak popping out behind second, Janke rapped back to the box and Whited hopped to third.

A single, a sacrifice bunt and a walk prompted a pitching change and Prachar came in to relieve Ryan. A bouncer to Lampel advanced runners to second and third and a wild pitch made it 5-2. A walk and a steal ensued and a two-RBI single took it 7-2. Another walk preceded a ground out to Adamczak at third.

Ryan grounded to second. Fossum was hit by pitch. Prachar singled down the third base line. Gerard bounced to second. Lampel was hit by pitch to load the bases but Granfors flied to left to close it out.
