Bode leads Rebels past Bombers


Ally Bode used her arm and her bat to lead the Moose Lake/Willow River Rebels in a 6-0 of the Banum Bombers in Barnum on Wednesday, May 13.

The sophomore, who struck out 14 and allowed only one hit and walked two, increased her area-leading total to 213 strikeouts. She went 3-for-4 at the plate and also leads the Rebels at the plate with a .609 batting average, which is third best in the area.

Cheyanne Johnson and Courtney Sieckert combined to strike out eight and to surrender just seven hits to the red hot Rebels who improved to 16-4 while Barnum went to 5-10. Sieckert allowed no runs and two hits in her three and two-thirds innings of work. Mallory Agurkis had Barnum’s one single.

Suzy Grutkoski rolled back to the circle. Bode’s check swing pop foul to third required a nice reach and grab by Emma Koski.

Lauren Pederson was hit by pitch and advanced to second on an illegal pitch call and went to third on a wild prior to Jessica Paull walking. Laura Walker dropped a two-RBI single into right field for 2-0 before Morgan Prachar struck out.

Bode got off to quite a start by fanning the side.

Merissa Mikrot popped to short. Johnson struck out Josie Benzie and Jamie Benzie grounded to third as Barnum answered with a 1-2-3 inning.

Koski grounded to short. Liz Carlson walked. Carlson stole before Johnson struck out as did Sieckert.

Grutkoski’s pop foul required another good play by Koski. Bode’s hard shot to short was knock down for a single. Bode took second on a wild pitch before Pederson rapped back to the circle.

With Paull at bat, two wild pitches made it 4-0 before Paull took her second walk. Walker stole before Prachar hit into a force at third.

Fallon Hartman struck out. Brittney Baier flied to shallow left. Leah Peterson laid down a nice bunt, but it was charged well by Paull for the out.

Merissa Mirkot reach on a bobble at short and took second on a wild pitch to Josie Benzie. Another wild pitch ensued but the runner stayed put and a talk in the circle came. A steal was next, and Josie Benzie roller to first was an RBI for 4-0. Jamie Benszie walked. Grutkoski got an RBI single for 5-0 and stole.

Bode singled for runners on the corners and stole before Pederson walked to load the bases for Paull and Courtney Sieckert came in to relieve Johnson. Paull popped to Sieckert. Paull walked and a wild pitch to Lauren Walker a wild pitch made it 6-0 and Prachar walked to load the bases again. Gabby Bennett pinch hit but watched strike three.

Agurkis walked and stole before Bailey Wheeler struck out. Agurkis took third on a wilk pitch before Koski fanned. Carlson lined to center.

Marissa Stevens pinch hit but was looking. Josie Benzie’s pop by first was a good play by Wheeler. Jamie Benzie struck out for a 1-2-3 for the Bombers.

Bode struck out the side for the second time in the game.

Grutkoski flied to left to Fallon. Bode dropped a single into center and advanced on a wild pitch before Pederson got an infield single.

Paull hit a hard grounder to short and interference was called. A steal came with Walker up but she rolled out to Sieckert.

Baier popped foul to third. Peterson had a good bunt but was out on a close call. Agurkis spoiled Bode’s bid for a no-hitter by dropping a single into right. Wheeler lined out to right.

Sieckert got her fourth strikeout but walked the next. Marissa Stevens rolled to second. Josie Benzie lined to third.

Bode finished the game by striking out the side for the third time, including getting the last two on nifty change-ups.
