Rebels top Tigers, are eliminated by Eskomos

Moose Lake/Willow River Rebel Charlie Adamczak battles an Esko Eskomo for a shot February 28 at Duluth Denfeld. The Rebels fell 54-33 to the Eskomos, ending their season.

The Rebels trailed 27-21 at halftime, but came back to top the Rush City Tigers 63-60 in the first round of Section 7AA action in Willow River on Tuesday, February 24. The Rebels sank 11 three-pointers and put four players in double figures to get the job done in the close one.

Brad Fossum earned the team-high honor with 14 points, including two three-pointers. Charlie Adamczak and Rex Janke each had 13 points and they each had three three-pointers. Eric Prachar had 12 points, including two three-pointers.

Dylan Fessenden had game-high honors for the Tigers with 20 points, including four three-pointers.

The Rebels went 11-for-24 (46 percent) from threeland while the Tigers were 7-for-17 (41 percent) on the long tries. MLWR had a 14-for-25 (56 percent) effort on the inside game while the Tigers were only slightly better in the paint at 15-for-25 (60 percent). Rush City was 9-for-15 (60 percent) at the foul stripe while MLWR shot just five free throws and made two of those tosses (40 percent).

Each team had 18 rebounds. The Rebels worked hard on defense and their efforts netted them 13 steals while the Tigers had just seven take-aways. Although MLWR committed 15 turnovers, Rush City suffered 19 lost possessions.

Rebels eliminated by Esko

The Rebels were eliminated by the Esko Eskomos in the quarterfinals of Section 7AA 54-33 at Duluth Denfeld February 28. Esko, with three players in double figures, was led by Aaron Olson's 15 points, including two three-pointers. Charlie Adamczak, the lone MLWR player to hit double digits, had 10 points, including three three-pointers.

Esko went 5-for-10 (50 percent) outside the arc while the Rebels fired 18 bombs but got just four to go (22 percent). The Eskomos pounded the paint at a 16-for-30 (53 percent) rate while the Rebels went 8-for-17 (47 percent) on the inside. Esko added 7-for-12 (58 percent) at the foul stripe while MLWR went 5-for-8 (63 percent) on the free throws.

The Eskomos out-rebounded the Rebels 23-20. Esko had seven steals while the Rebels had three thefts. The Eskomos had 12 assists while MLWR had five passes for scores. Esko kept the turnovers down to just four while the Rebels had 12 lost possessions.
