Barnum man injured in crash

A 28-year-old Barnum man was in critical condition after the 2004 Hyundia Elantra sedan he was driving left the road at the 3200 block of County Road 104 in Carlton County and crashed into a tree.

Carlton County Dispatch received the call at 1:10 a.m. on February 2. When first responders arrived on scene they found the driver, and sole occupant, unconscious and not breathing. CPR was started and the driver was transported to Mercy Hospital in Moose Lake. He was later airlifted to Essentia Health in Duluth. His current condition is not known.

The driver was not wearing a seat belt. Speed was a factor and the driver was believed to have hit a deer a few minutes before the accident. Information at the accident scene indicates there may have been a medical issue, however, the accident is still under investigation and nothing has been ruled out.

Agencies assisting with the accident include the Carlton County Sheriff’s Office, Minnesota State Patrol, Blackhoof Fire Department, Carlton Ambulance, Mercy Ambulance Advanced Life Support, and Life Link III Air Ambulance.
