Winning streak for Bomber boys

Barnum Bomber Brandon Newman plows through the Wrenshall Wrens during the January 16 game in Wrenshall. The Bombers won 69-26.

The Barnum Bombers boys basketball team continues to roll past the competition. The Bombers hosted the Duluth Denfeld Hunters on January 13.

The first half of the game was a back and forth battle of scoring as the Hunters kept the score close. For the first half, Barnum senior Brandon Newman led the Bombers with 15 points, followed closely by Hunter Fetters with 10. Andrew Naslund and Chris Carlson both added four first half points. Mitchell Weller and Nate Jelinek added two points each to give the Bombers a 37-32 first half lead.

The Bombers came out on a mission in the second half to take control of the game and take yet another win. Newman added 19 more points for a game total of 34 points. Fetters had an additional six points for a game total of 16 points. Weller and Carlson added four more points each in the second half with Carlson ending the evening with eight points and Weller finished with six points. Tanner Fuglestad came off the bench to land a long outside shot for three points. The Bombers beat the Hunters 73-53.

The Bombers then headed to Wrenshall to take on the Wrens on January 16. The Bombers took control of the game early on. Newman again led the Bombers to a 69-26 victory over the Wrens.

The Bombers traveled to the University of Minnesota Duluth to take on the Hibbing Bluejackets on January 19. The Bombers again jumped out to an early lead heading into halftime with a 37-28 lead.

The second half of the game had the Bombers outscoring the Bluejackets 32-20. The Bombers claimed another victory, 69-48.

Newman hit yet another milestone as he landed his 2,000th career point during this game.
