Barnum Bomber Mitchell Weller drives it in hard for the basket against the Virginia Blue Devils December 30.

The Barnum Bombers boys basketball team hosted the Virginia Blue Devils December 30.

The Bombers jumped to an early lead and took control of the game. Barnum senior Brandon Newman once again led the Bombers in an all-out assault against the Blue Devils, outscoring them 26-18 himself with Hunter Fetters adding four first half points and Nathan Jelinek adding another two points.

Newman began the scoring onslaught by landing a pair of long bombs from beyond the arc. Newman ended the first half landing five three-pointers, driving into the basket another three times while going to the line and sinking five of seven free-throws. The Bombers took a 32-18 lead into halftime.

The second half again had the Bombers coming out strong, but this time it was senior Mitchell Weller leading the charge with eight second half points, one three-pointer, a nice two-pointer and landing three of five from the line. Jelinek landed a three and a pair of two-pointers. Newman eased up a bit, scoring only five second half points. Tanner Fuglestad went to the line and added one of two, and landed a nice long bomb from beyond the arc. Fetters fought to score three points from below the basket, while Andrew Naslund went to the line to sink one of two.

The Blue Devils tried to rally with four of their players landing three-pointers, but the Bombers shut them down soundly, only allowing another six points with two of them were from the free throw line.

The Bombers walked away with a 60-36 victory, keeping their undefeated season alive.

Newman ended the night with 31 overall points, nearly outscoring the Blue Devils. Jelinek had nine points, while Weller ended the night with eight points. Fetters finished with seven points, Fuglestad added an additional four points, and Naslund put up the final point for the Bombers.
