Bombers boys thaw Eskomos

Barnum Bomber Hunter Fetters dominates under the basket.

The Barnum Bombers boys basketball team hosted the Esko Eskomos December 19. The gym was packed as the Eskomos attempted to take down the undefeated Bombers on their own court.

The game began with the Eskomos taking the early lead. It soon changed as Bomber Brandon Newman stole the ball for a fast break one-handed dunk. Esko's game plan looked as if it could shut Newman down, but that's when Bomber junior Hunter Fetters surprised the Eskomos and landed some very nice shots from below the basket. The Eskomos were unable to answer to Fetters as he continued to dominate.

The Eskomos led for much of the first half. Then Newman again was able to steal the ball and on a fast break move took to the air and smashed the ball through the hoop with a dominant two-handed dunk. This was the shot that turned the game around for the Bombers.

With Newman's dunk, the Bombers fans erupted. In the next Bombers possession, Newman landed an outside three-pointer that gave the Bombers the lead. The Bombers never trailed again.

It had been more than a decade since the Bombers boys defeated the Eskomos. The Bombers walked away with a 62-48 victory over the Eskomos.

Bomber Newman was the points leader for the night with 27. Newman landed three three-pointers, three twos, and shot an impressive 12-14 from the line. Fetters was a shining star for the Bombers by putting up a new career high 19 points, going 7-8 from the line. Mitchell Weller ended his night with nine points, one three-pointer, one two-pointer and hitting 4-6 from the line. Nathan Jelinek added one three-pointer and one two-pointer to end his night with five points. Dakotah Haley came off the bench to contribute two points for the Bombers' victory over the Eskomos.
