MLA girls win some, lose some

The Moose Lake Area girls hockey team battles the Eveleth-Gilbert Golden Bears November 25 in Eveleth. The MLA Rebels crushed the Golden Bears 9-0.

The Moose Lake Area (MLA) Rebels girls hockey team lost 8-2 on the road to the Duluth Northern Stars on November 17. The Rebels were outshot 30-20 in the game with Maddy Gamst taking the loss in goal for MLA.

The Rebels first goal came at 0:23 of the third period and was an even strength goal by Asia Gobel, assisted by Jessica Bird and Jamie Bird. Jessica Bird got an even strength goal at 7:11, assisted by Sage Gerard and Gobel to close the score to 4-2 but the Northern Stars went on to tack on four goals before it was over.

Rebels cruise

by St. Paul Blades

The Moose Lake Area girls hockey team cruised by the St. Paul Blades November 22 7-1. The Rebels outshot the Blades 38-17 with Gamst earning the win the 16 saves.

Jamie Bird had a hat trick and an assist for a four-point outing while Jessica Bird had a goal and four assists for a five-point game.

Mackenzi Louzek started the scoring as she had a goal at 3:53 of the first period on an even strength goal assisted by Karina Cisar and Cheyanne Wilson. Jamie Bird scored an even strength goal at 15:00 of the same period with assists by Asia Gobel and Jessica Bird.

The Rebels made it 3-0 at 3:36 of the second stanza as Jamie Bird scored an even strength goal, assisted by Jessica Bird and Sage Gerard.

The Rebels closed out the onslaught with four unanswered goals in the third period. Jamie Bird and Jessica Bird combined on the power play at 3:14 for 4-1, MLA. Wilson scored at 7:53, assisted by Cisar for 5-1. Gobel scored at 8:04 on an even strength goal assisted by Jessica Bird and Jamie Bird for 6-1, Rebels. Jessica Bird got her hat trick at 8:23 on an even strength goal assisted by Gerard for the final bit 7-1 tally.

Rebels crush Golden Bears

The Rebels outshot the Golden Bears by a 48-12 margin to crush Eveleth-Gilbert at the Hippodrome 9-0 on November 25. Gobel and Jessica Bird each had a five-point performance as they each had a hat trick and two assists on the night. Gamst got her first shutout of the season as she stopped all 12 shots on goal.

Jessica Bird had an even strength goal at 3:13 with an assist from Louzek to open the scoring. Jessica Bird got an even strength goal assisted by Cassie Gassert and Gobel at 8:53. Cisar scored an even strength goal at 9:29 assisted by Wilson and Jessica Paull.

Gobel started the second stanza scoring with an even strength goal, assisted by Jessica Bird, at 9:42. Louzek scored an even strength goal, assisted by Wilson and Cisar, at 10:09. Jessica Bird scored at 13:49 on an even strength goal assisted by Gobel. Gobel scored an even strength goal, assisted by Gerard and Jamie Bird, at 16:47.

Wilson scored an even strength goal, assisted by Cisar, at 7:18 of the third period. Gobel closed out the scoring with an even strength goal assisted by Jessica and Jamie Bird at 12:15 for the final 9-0 shutout.

MLA falls by two

to Mound Westonka

Despite tying with shots on goal at 33 each, the Moose Lake Area girls hockey team fell by two goals with a 4-2 loss at Riverside Arena on Saturday, November 29. Gamst had 29 saves in a losing effort in goal.

Gobel got both the Rebels goals and Jessica Bird and Jamie Bird each had an assist as did Kiersten Evenson and Gerard.

After tying it at 2-2, Mound Westonka scored late in the second and one early in the third to keep a 4-2 lead.

In the third period, the Rebels went on a five-minute power play after a major penalty was given to a Mound Westonka player, but were unable to capitalize.

The Rebels will host Superior at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, December 9 and Wadena-DC-LPGE on Friday, December 12 at 7:15 p.m.
