Rebels pound Lightning

The MLA Rebels girls pound the Northern Lakes Lightning 7-2 at Riverside Arena November 11.

The Moose Lake Area Rebels girls hockey team opened their season at Riverside Arena on Tuesday, November 11 with a 7-2 pounding of the Northern Lakes Lightning. The Rebels outshot the Lightning 32-23 with Maddy Gamst getting 21 saves in goal for the win.

Cheyanne Wilson, Lauren Pederson and Jamie Bird each had two goals to lead the Rebels' attack. Jamie Bird also had two assists for a four-point night.

There was no scoring in the first period with Northern Lakes outshooting MLA 8-6. Each team had a penalty.

Northern Lakes got on the board first with an even strength assisted goal at 5:18 of the second stanza. The Rebels fired back with two unanswered goals. Wilson scored an even strength goal at 11:56, assisted by Karina Cisar for 1-1. Jessica Bird scored with nine ticks left in the period. She was assisted by her twin sister, Jamie Bird.

Northern Lakes was able to knot it back up at 2-2 at 3:22 of the third period with an even strength assisted goal. Pederson got a goal at 5:54 of the period with an assist from Cassie Gassert. Jamie Bird got an unassisted even strength goal for 4-2 at 6:15. Pederson got her second goal of the game with an even strength goal, assisted by Jamie Bird, at 7:55. Wilson notched her second goal of the evening with an even strength goal, assisted by Mackenzie Louzek at 11:17 for 6-2. Jamie Bird got her third point of the night and her second goal as she scored unassisted again at 12:46 for the 7-2 final score.

Rebels thumped

The Rebels were thumped 7-1 by Proctor-Hermantown at Riverside Arena in Moose Lake on Thursday, November 13. On a positive note, the Rebels outshot Proctor-Hermantown 24-20. Gamst suffered the loss in goal for the 1-1 Rebels.

Louzek got the Rebels lone goal and it was a short-handed effort, assisted by Jessica Bird at 8:50 of the third period.

It was a good early-season test for the Rebels as Proctor-Hermantown knocked out Moose Lake Area in the semifinals of the playoffs last year.

Win on Saturday

On Saturday, the Rebels defeated Minnehaha United 4-1. Four different players, Jessica Paull, Louzek, Wilson and Asia Gobel, all scored for the Rebels in a game in which they outshot Minnehaha 37-15. The win moved the Rebels to 2-1.

This week, the Rebels have three road games before returning home to face Mound Westonka on Saturday, November 29 with the junior varsity game at noon and the varsity game slated for 2 p.m. at Riverside Arena.
