Rebels runners take home 17 medals

The Moose Lake/Willow River/Barnum cross country team headed to the Pincushion Trails near Grand Marais for the running of the Polar League Conference Cross Country Championships on October 8. With a total of 60 medals available for the top 10 girls and boys junior high, junior varsity and varsity races, the Rebels came away with a total of 17 medals out of the six schools present.

The Rebels junior high girls who medaled are Chloe Gamst in fourth, Mallory Agurkis in fifth and Laya Danelski in ninth.

For the Rebels junior varsity girls, Sydney Bexell came in second, Josephine Race in fifth, Brandi Lekander in sixth, Erika Kosloski in seventh and Alexis Babcock in 10th.

For the varsity girls and boys races the top 10 medal winners are considered all conference. For the Rebels varsity girls, Kennedy Bryant finished in ninth place.

Of the boys who medaled, Rebels junior high runner Lake Doran finished in eighth place. Junior varsity Rebels Jacob Danelski finished fourth, Filipp Tychina in fifth, Tim Vogt in eighth and Ryder Anderson in 10th. Varsity Rebels boys all conference medal winners were Ethan Olson in third place, Asa Spicer in sixth and Andrew Mikrot in 10th.

Along with winning medals, these runners helped their teams in placing where they did. The junior high girls and boys teams did not have the required five runners for a team placement. The junior varsity girls once again placed first for the second time this season with Lexi Tikippe in 11th and Lily Geil in 16th.

The Rebels junior varsity boys placed second with Aaron Bode in 12th and Danny Whited in 14th.

The varsity girls had some stiff competition and finished third with Savannah Gamst in 11th, Sarah Michels in 13th, Charis Blacklock in 20th and Meghan Granquist in 22nd.

The varsity boys had a second place finish with Mark Fossum in 14th, Nick Fury in 15th and Casey Tuel in 19th.

Proctor hosted the cross country meet on Tuesday, October 14. The Section 7A championships are in Cloquet on October 23.
