'Finish the Fight'

A beautiful day to Relay

Moose Lake's city park is dotted with purple and white during the Relay For Life of Southern Carlton County Saturday. Survivors are recognized with purple shirts, the front of which displays this year's slogan, "Finish the Fight."

With the lake as our backdrop and good company our surrounding, more than just the sun was shining Saturday for the Relay For Life of Southern Carlton County held at Moose Lake City Park.

The strength of those battling cancer and the support of their family and friends shone bright. Memories of those lost were shared and added an even greater push to "Finish the Fight."

As I scurried around taking photos of just about every aspect of the Relay, I was made aware of that strength. There were stories of survivors' uphill battles, followed by embraces of support. Survivors, caregivers, friends and family walked hand-in-hand with loved ones along the Relay path, pausing to take closer looks at luminary bags along the way.

The number of luminaries made it evident that cancer affects so many people. Luminaries were placed along the path to remember loved ones whose battles were lost and to recognize those still fighting. The lighting of these luminaries was one of the most moving ceremonies one can observe — the steady glow behind the messages of love is truly amazing.

Moose Lake’s Relay For Life not only raised funds to continue cancer research and provide services for those battling cancer, it provided a unique opportunity to bring together neighbors to celebrate, to remember, and to “Finish the Fight.”
