Several accidents over weekend


Several serious accidents occurred locally over the weekend.

According to Pine County Sheriff Robin Cole, on Saturday morning about 11:30, a 16-year-old girl and boy were riding on a four-wheeler on Meadow Lily Road near Hinckley when the four-wheeler left the road. The girl was able to leave the vehicle before it overturned. The male was crushed by the vehicle.

Pine County deputies, first responders and ambulance arrived at the scene and reported minor injuries to the girl and serious injuries to the boy’s back. The girl was treated in a local hospital while the boy was transported by helicopter to a metro area hospital. The boy remains hospitalized in serious condition.

Interstate 35 rollover

The Minnesota State Patrol reported a one-vehicle incident around 5:25 p.m. Saturday on Interstate 35. A Honda CR-V was traveling southbound when the driver, Daniel Moran, 78, of Burnsville, apparently fell asleep at the wheel.

The vehicle left the road near milepost 212 in Windemere Township, rolling multiple times over a guardrail and through a fence, according to the report. Moran’s wife and daughter were traveling with him. Moran and his daughter received non-life-threatening injuries, while his wife sustained no apparent injury. The Moose Lake Police Department and Pine County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) assisted.

Tractor rollover

Later Saturday night around 8:45, a man was killed in a tractor rollover. According to Cole, PCSO deputies responded to a medical emergency call of a man trapped under a tractor at an address on Highway 123 near Askov. Deputies found an adult male with no signs of life under a tractor. Fire department, first responders and ambulance personnel confirmed the man was deceased.

The victim was freed and transported to the Anoka County medical examiner for an autopsy. Preliminary findings identify the cause of death as blunt force trauma. The identity of the victim has not been released.

Carlton County accident

Saturday afternoon three juvenile males were injured in a single car accident in the 4400 block of County Road 6 west of Barnum. According to the Carlton County Sheriff’s Office press release, the vehicle was traveling west on County Road 6 when the vehicle experienced tire trouble. The vehicle veered off the road into the north ditch and rolled numerous times before coming to rest in a hay field.

The driver, a 16-year-old male from Barnum, and one passenger, a 15-year-old male from Kerrick, were treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a local hospital. Another passenger, a 14-year-old boy from Barnum with numerous injuries, was transported via Life Link to a Duluth hospital.

The Carlton County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Minnesota State Patrol, Moose Lake Police Department, Life Link, Mercy Ambulance, Barnum Fire Department and Moose Lake Fire Department.
