A May 28 fire damaged the home and office of Sturgeon Lake Motel owners Morlin and Carol Kinnaman.

The office of Sturgeon Lake Motel and the home of owners Morlin and Carol Kinnaman burned in a fire on Wednesday, May 28.

Sturgeon Lake Fire Chief Mike Mikrot said in a telephone interview the call had come in around 11 a.m. from someone passing by who had seen the fire.

"When we got there the house was fully engulfed in flames," he said. "No one had been home at the time of the fire. We were able to rescue two cats, but four dogs and three cats were lost in the fire."

Mikot said the Sturgeon Lake Fire Department was on the scene for four hours and was assisted by the Moose Lake and Willow River fire departments with tankers and manpower.

He added that the state fire marshal had also been on the scene but it would take a week before a report was issued regarding the cause of the fire.

The motel was not damaged in the fire.
