MLA boys win one, lose three


The Moose Lake Area Rebels fought but ultimately were blanked 7-0 by Legacy Christian at Riverside Arena in Moose Lake January 14.

The Moose Lake Area Rebels boys hockey team had a 3-1 lead heading into the final frame but fell 6-3 to Northern Lakes at Riverside Arena on Thursday, January 9. The Rebels ended up being out-shot 43-25 with Gage Mohelsky taking the loss in goal with 37 saves. Bryceton Butkiewicz had a goal and an assist for MLA.

Richie Parzy scored the lone goal of the first frame and it came at 0:40 and was assisted by Butkiewicz.

Northern Lakes tied it at 1-1 as they scored at 1:33 of the second period. MLA re-took the lead as Butkiewicz scored an unassisted goal for 2-1. It was Jesse Granfors scoring on the power play, assisted by Wyatt Lampel, for 3-1 heading into the third frame.

It was all Lightning in the third period as they scored goals at 1:03, 6:00, 6:07, 9:44 and 11:31 for the final scored of 6-3.

The Rebels nearly shut out St. Paul Highland Park with a big 6-1 victory on Saturday, January 11. MLA out-shot the opponents 41-21 in the game with Mohelsky making 20 saves for the win in goal. Butkiewicz and Parzy had the hot hands for the Rebels as Butkiewicz had two goals and three assists and Parzy had two goals and two assists for five and four point afternoons, respectively. Jordan Drewlo had a three-point afternoon.

Butkiewicz started it off with a short-handed unassisted goal that came at 11:28. Drewlo scored, on assists by Butkiewicz and Parzy, for 2-0 at 14:17.

Parzy scored at 1:36 of the second stanza on assists by Butkiewicz and Drew Bryant for 3-0. The Rebels' Joey Whited scored on an assist by Devin Murphy for 4-0, Rebels at 4:20. Highland was able to get one past Mohelsky for 4-1 at 16:07.

Parzy got his second goal of the game at 1:56 of the third period and was assisted by Butkiewicz and Drewlo. Butkiewicz got his fifth point of the afternoon as he scored at 10:51, assisted by Parzy and Drewlo, for 6-1.

The Rebels were blanked 7-0 by Legacy Christian at Riverside Arena on Tuesday, January 14. MLA was out-shot 47-18 in the game. Mohelsky had 40 saves for the Rebels.

Moose Lake Area fell to Proctor 8-2 on Thursday, January 16. The Rebels were out-shot 43-13 with Mohelsky taking the loss in goal with 35 saves.

Butkiewicz scored an unassisted short-handed goal at 10:03 of the second period. It was Murphy combining with Parzy and Butkiewicz for MLA's other goal in the same period at 16:24.
