Esko School closed due to bomb threat


According to the Carlton County Sheriff's Office, on January 14 at approximately 12:25 p.m. a written bomb threat was found in the Esko School.

All students K-12 were evacuated to St. Matthews Church and everyone was safe and accounted for.

Law enforcement from Thomson Township, the Carlton County Sheriff’s Office, Cloquet Police Department, Minnesota State Patrol, and FBI, along with the Esko Fire Department, responded to the incident.

At press time, bomb detection dogs were being utilized in the investigation and the Esko School buildings were reported closed until further notice. "The safety of the students and staff are of highest priority," stated a press release from the Carlton County Sheriff's Office. "Investigators are looking for the person or persons responsible for this threat. Anyone with information is urged to call 9-1-1," concluded the release.

Carlton County Sheriff's Office update:

On 1-16-2014, Thomson Township Police and Carlton County Sheriff’s Office arrested an eighteen (18) year old male in connection with the Esko School bomb threat incident on 1-14-2014.

Eddie Michael Edwards, age 18, of Esko was arrested for Felony Terroristic Threats and is currently in custody at the Carlton County Jail awaiting formal charges by the Carlton County Attorney’s Office.
