Bomber boys roll to playoffs

The Barnum Bomber boys basketball team went three for three last week defeating Pine City, Hinckley-Finlayson and South Ridge.

The Bombers first hosted the Pine City Dragons on February 26. The Bombers jumped out to the early lead, with Daniel Warpula, Brandon Newman, Zach Carlson and Nicholas Jelinek all landing shots to give the Bombers a 41-16 lead going into halftime.

The second half had the Bombers bringing even more fire power to the game with Samuel Anderson, John Zmyslony, Tory Slater, Dacotah Haley and Mitchell Weller all adding to the Bombers' lead.

The Bombers easily defeated the Dragons 79-41.

Bombers vs. Jaguars

The second game of the week had the Bombers hitting the road south to take on the Hinckley-Finlayson Jaguars.T

Bomber Newman started the game hitting four three pointers in the first five minutes of the game to jump the Bombers to the early lead. Newman continued to add to the Bombers' lead, hitting 11 of 13 from the free throw line. Newman landed 32 first-half points, better than half of the Bombers' total first-half points.

Warpula was not denied his chance at landing the three-ball against the Jaguars, hitting five three pointers in a row, while also going to the line for four of four, giving him 23 first-half points. Carlson rounded out the scoring with four first-half points, giving the Bombers a 59-31 lead going into halftime.

The second half had Newman only adding an additional two points, while Warpula and Carlson both added an additional six points apiece. Andrew Naslund and Chase Peterson both came off the bench to land one three pointer apiece. Jelinek, Anderson and Haley all added two points in the second half.

The Bombers walked away from the Jaguars with an 85-42 point victory.

Newman led the Bombers with 34 points, two rebounds, five steals and five assists.Warpula ended the night with 29 points, two rebounds, five steals, nine assists and two blocks. Carlson ended the night with 10 points, four rebounds, one steal and one assist. Naslund had three points and one rebound. Peterson had three points and one assist. Jelinek ended with two points and one rebound. Anderson had two points, eight rebounds, two steals, four assists and one save. Haley ended with two points.

Bombers vs. Panthers

The third and final game of the week proved to be the Bombers' most difficult. The Bombers hosted the South Ridge Panthers.

Newman and Warpula again began with the long bombs from beyond the arc, both hitting two apiece, while Jelinek landed one from beyond the arc to open up the inside game. This allowed Warpula, Carlson, Anderson, Jelinek and Naslund to hit from the inside, jumping the Bombers to a 36-22 point lead going into halftime.

The second half had Carlson hitting from beyond the arc, while Slater, Anderson, Newman and Warpula all hit from inside to give the Bombers a 57-52 point victory.

Warpula led the Bombers with 15 points, six rebounds, two steals and one assist. Carlson had 10 points, two rebounds, four steals and four assists. Newman had nine points, five rebounds and four assists. Anderson had eight points, six rebounds and one assist. Slater had eight points, five rebounds and one assist. Jelinek ended with five points, four rebounds, four steals and two assists. Naslund had two points.

The Bombers will begin section tournament play, taking on Pine River-Backus, on Thursday, March 7 at Barnum High School.
