The Moose Lake Area Rebels boys fell to Webster-Siren (Burnett, Wisconsin) 12-0 at home December 14. The Rebels were outshot 48-6 in the large loss.


Rebels put nine in scorebook

to beat Blue Devils

The Moose Lake-Willow River Rebels put nine players in the scorebook to beat the Virginia Blue Devils by a score of 56-49 in Moose Lake on Tuesday, December 11. Matt Mach, with four three-pointers, was the lone Rebel to hit double digits for the undefeated Rebels. Cade Stackpool and Jacob Quick each had 13 points for Virginia. The Rebels led just 25-23 at the break.

Michael Pender, Jake Disterhaupt and Tony Adamczak had nine, eight and seven points, respectively. Isaac Coil, John Zinter and Ike Pederson added five, four and three points, respectively, and Erza Szczyrbak had a free throw.

Rebels drop Polar Bears

The Rebels stayed unbeaten as they dropped the Floodwood Polar Bears by a score of 69-58 in Floodwood on Thursday, December 13. The Rebels led 34-23 at the break and put three players in double figures. Michael Pender led the way with 14 points, including one three-pointer. Riley Bernsdorf and Ross Schminski each had 17 points for Floodwood.

Tony Adamczak had 12 points, including two threes. Ike Pederson scored 11 points. Matt Mach, with two threes, had nine points. Isaac Coil and Jake Disterhaupt each scored six points. Ezra Szczyrbak had five points and John Zinter had four points. Brad Fossum added a bucket.

Next, the boys travel to Crosby-Ironton High School to take part in the Crosby-Ironton Invitational December 27-29.

Bombers drop Mercuries

Then undefeated Barnum Bombers had no trouble dropping the McGregor Mercuries with an 89-25 thumping in Barnum on Monday, December 17. The Bombers soared to a 52-11 lead at halftime. Zach Carlson led all scorers with 22 points and Daniel Warpula, with two threes, had 18 points as Barnum put four players in double figures.

Tory Slater, with one three, had 11 points and Samuel Anderson had 10 points. Dakota Haley scored nine points. Brandon Newman had four points. Colton Selix hit one three-pointer and Andrew Naslund had three points as did Mitchell Weller. Perry Serrano had two points as did John Zmyslony and Chase Peterson.

The Barnum boys travel to Braham December 21 with game time at 7:30 p.m.


Bombers beat Eagles

The Barnum Bombers beat the East Central Eagles in overtime by a score of 62-59 at East Central on Tuesday, December. 11. No details of the scoring were presented for either team.

Next, the Bombers host Braham December 21 with game time at 7:15 p.m.


MLA beats Webster-Siren

The Moose Lake Area girls beat Webster-Siren by a score of 8-2 on Tuesday, Dec. 11. Kaitlyn Greene made 38 saves in goal for MLA’s win and even had an assist on a goal. Andrea Youngberg scored a hat trick for the Rebels.

The Rebels scored first with Andrea Youngberg scoring at 6:11 of the first period, assisted by Haley Radel and Hannah Dougherty. MLA scored at 6:52 on a goal by Erin Mollberg, assisted by Jessica Bird.

MLA got three goals in the second period. Youngberg scored at 14:53, assisted by Jamie Bird for 3-2. It was Jamie Bird with an unassisted goal at 15:22 for the 4-2 lead. Georgia Ryan, assisted by Mollberg and Ryan, scored for the 5-2 advantage.

It was all MLA in third frame. Ryan scored, assisted by Mollberg and Jamie Bird for 6-2 at 4:55. Mollberg scored, assisted by Ryan and Greene for 7-2 at 8:04. Youngberg capped off a hat trick with a goal at 15:54 that was assisted by Jessica Paull.

nips Silver Bay Mariners

Kaitlyn Greene earned the win by stopping 18 of 20 shots on goal in the 3-2 Rebels win. Jessica Bird had a two goals, including the game-winner.

There was no scoring in the first period.

Andrea Youngberg, assisted by Jamie Bird, made it 1-0 at 4:22 of the second stanza. Silver Bay got two goals to take a 2-1 lead heading into the final period.

The third period found the Rebels scoring two goal for the victory. Jessica Bird scored, assisted by Jamie Bird and Hannah Dougherty on the power play to make it 2-2 at 6:45. Jessica Bird got the game-winner at 7:06, assisted by Erin Mollberg and Dougherty for the 3-2 final tally.

The Rebels are now 6-3 on the season. They have two more home games before Christmas. On Thursday, they host Princeton at 7 p.m. before welcoming Superior to Riverside Arena on Saturday. That game starts at 1 p.m..

loses to North Branch

With the win against Silver Bay on the road last Thursday, the MLA Rebels eclipsed their season win total from last year.

The Moose Lake Area boys hockey team lost 7-3 to North Branch on Tuesday, December 11. The Rebels were outshot only 42-38 with Gage Mohelsky taking the loss in net with 35 saves.

Cole Lower scored first on an unassisted goal for the first period’s only goal at 8:57.

North Branch scored three unanswered goals in the second stanza and added three more goals in the third period before Gabe Douglas scored on a goal assisted by Tyler Hoffman. Jesse Granfors and Douglas clicked for an assisted goal at 16:51 of the third period to end the scoring at 7-3 as the Rebels remained winless on the season.

The MLA boys travel to Princeton December 20 with game time at 7:15 p.m.
